Q:Travel Gap SIngle Trip Excursion Hi Narender I read travel gap excursion brochure for my mother in law (USA citizen with medicare coverage 80%) who is travelling canada in 2 weeks. She is having Diabetes, Hypertension, Liver cirrhosis but asymptomatic since 6 month. Before I purchase the insurance for her I wanted to be sure that her insurance will be approved with her existing condition. For instance 1. What will NOT be covered? 2. Proof of coverage - will insurance company provide a card? 3. Do we have to co pays for each of the service (eg. drs visits, ER visit, meds etc). 4. Any particular hospital or specific doctor if they accept this insurance 5. Any problems with insurance coverage in Toronto and if yes, what kinds of problems have been reported. 6. What kind of equipment coverage is available, for e.g. say if need O2 at home, is that covered? 7. If she is hospitalized on the 3 month insurance, and if I need to renew premium, will they renew it at the same rate or higher? if she is not hospitalized, will it be renewed at the same rate or lower I appreciate your early response Nadia

A:
She has extensive health problems that will require care abroad. Someone like this is clearly leaving with the intent of accessing care abroad. Impossible to say what is covered or not in a unique case like this one. We don't know all the circumstances here. I am going to caution you to read the policy and the list of exclusions very carefully. Please read this specific exclusion below on the TravelGap Excursion plan, which reads: "Treatment or medical services required while traveling against the advice of a physician, while on a waiting list for a specific treatment or when traveling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment." 1. Please read the plan description and the exclusions carefully. /travel-health-insurance/ 2. Yes. 3. This depends on the plan design selected. A deductible may apply based on the plan chosen. 4. A member can seek care from any provider overseas. Benefits are paid at 100% of reasonable fees, less the plan deductible. HTH has a small number of select doctors, hospitals and clinics under contract in Toronto. Due to Canadian law, they are not permitted to publish the actual details and profiles of the doctors. Only registered members are permitted to access the hospital list online. 5. Canada has a national health system. Contracting with private medical insurers can be a challenge for public hospitals. There is a possibility that a member will have to pay upfront if they go to a non contracted provider. 6. Home health is not covered. See the certificate for all exclusions. 7. The rate does not vary.

Q:Insurance for F2 visa holder Hi! I am Pooja, an indian citizen, currently in Rochester, NY, USA. I came here on 6th Feb 2010. Husband is a student on F1 visa and I am a dependant on F2. We both carried insurances from India. My husband's insurance (student) was valid for an year and is renewable for another year. My insurance (visitor) was valid for 6 months and was renewed for another 6 months. My insurance has expired on 20th Feb 2011. My husband plans to renew his Indian insurance, while mine is not renewable (as per the info received from service provider, pls confirm). I am looking to buy an insurance with less premium for approximately 6 months and probably renew it for another 6 months. I read the reviews of various insurance providers (Seven corners, atlas america, etc) and they've been very disappointing. Pls suggest a suitable insurance.

A:
You can consider buying Patriot America Insurance.

Q:increasing coverage Hi, I took a Atlas America insurance for my father in law. since he was healthy (except for diabates which was under control), I took a $50,000 limit plan. Immediately after taking insurance he fainted and fell. I took him to ER and ended up doing open heart surgery. I believe, the cost of surgery and hospital care would exceed $50,000. Is there any way I can bump up the coverage limit now? Also if I take another plan and ask the hospital to split the bills, will it work? Please suggest a solution. Thank you, Vijay

A:
It is too late now to attempt to increase the coverage limit. No insurance company would allow you to increase the limit if you believe the expenses would exceed the policy limit. Even if you try to purchase another plan, the existing condition would be considered as pre-existing condition and not covered under the new plan. No company would offer you the insurance just to immediately give away lots of money when it is already known loss. It is not true that healthy people would select lower policy maximum (or no insurance) and sick people would select higher policy maximum, as insurance does not work like that. Please note that insurance is for unforeseen risks that may occur after the effective date of the policy. That means that the health insurance is for healthy people (or for new health problems that occur after the effective date of the policy) and not for those who are already sick. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right policy maximum initially itself. I hope that answers your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Immigrant Secure Plan Hi Anyone have experience with Immigrant Secure plan. I believe it is administered by HCC Medical Insurance Services.

A:
You can all the information about Immigrant Secure plan at /visitor-secure-insurance/ You can get instant quotes and make instant purchase right there as well. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time. First, let me thank you for responding to a lot of questions here. I have been browsing these forums (this is my first post) and see you patiently explain/answer everything. I saw the Immigrant Secure brochure and liked many aspects of the plan. My specific questions are (sorry, some of them may be basic but I am new to this): 1. I was led to the plan through a general Google search. But I didn't see that plan listed when I searched insubuy for visitor insurance plans. I also didn't see this plan discussed much on the inubuy forum. Just curious if it was not popular or has some deficiency that I don't see. 2. I understand it is not a comprehensive plan but a fixed coverage plan. Is the plan part of any PPO network, where if I go to an in-network doctor/hospital, I will be responsible for only the contracted rate (less whatever insurance pays)? If so, can we do direct billing to the insurer? I didn't see the PPO mentioned specifically in their brochure, unless I missed something. What PPO networks are they part of, if any? 3. I assume Immigrant Secure plan will pay (subject to the deductible, plan max., covered benefit etc.) even if you visit an out of network doctor/facility, correct? Just that there will not be any contracted rate. 4. Does insubuy sell this policy? Is insubuy only an insurance agent/broker or does it perform any plan administration (for any plan, not just immigrant secure)? 5. One of the main difference I see between a comprehensive plan and a fixed coverage plan is the limited benefits for each incident and per incident deductible for fixed coverage plans. If the benefit limits are not too low (e.g. Plan D in Immigrant Secure) and one can afford to pay the per incident deductible (there is the $0 deductible option as well), my thinking is, these plans would likely cover the rest (if the limits are not too low). Is this correct thinking or am I missing something? 6. Finally, I wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with this plan. Particularly, if they have made a claim and got paid. As you noted in another post, we mainly hear (complaints) from folks who had issues with a plan but not always from folks when things go well. But the real test would be to hear from folks who actually made large claims on their policy and got paid as per the plan schedule. Thanks. You are welcome. I would be glad to answer all of your questions. 1. There is no hidden deficiency or catch in the plan that you already don't see in the public documents available on our web site. 2. Please look at /visitor-secure-insurance/ It mentions that it participates in First Health/PHCS/CMN PPO networks. There will be contracted rates in PPO network and most providers in the network will directly bill. 3. There will be no network negotiated rates out of network. The insurance will pay according to the schedule of benefits for all eligible medical expenses. 4. We certainly sell Immigrant Secure policy. We offer all major visitors insurance plans available in the U.S. market. The definition of administration can vary to different people. You can contact us for understanding the details of the plans, for buying it and also for most post sale related administrative tasks for all the plans we sell. (Such as you didn't get the cards, need help in searching the Dr, renewal, cancellation, corrections etc.) However, the claims are handled by HCCMIS. Therefore, you can contact us for anything other than the claims related routine questions. Even for claims, you can always contact us if you run into any problems or need any help. 5. If the fixed coverage plans were enough, there would be no reason for anyone to pay more money and buy comprehensive coverage plans. And comprehensive coverage plans would not even exist. 6. In such cases, no news is good news. If someone has good experience and they never report, we really have no way to know what happened. New customers (and we) would like to know about the positive experiences, but most current customers simply don't care to report good experiences. I am sorry but that is the reality. I welcome anyone who had any positive experience with any plan to post in detail. I hope this answers your questions. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at any time or post them here.

Q:insurance for f2 I'm a student of Ohio State. Currently I'm enrolled in our school's comprehensive insurance plan, but I don't buy our school's insurance for my wife (f2 visa holder) yet, because it's too expensive (more than $6,000 per year). I wonder if there are any suitable plans for her, including emergency care, regular inspection and maternity care (although we don't have plan to have a child, just in case). Thank you very much, any advice is appreciated!

A:
Do you want insurance only for your wife on F2, or also for you? Just for my wife now. I don't know if I can drop my school's insurance and buy new one with my wife together. Thanks~ If you want just for your F2 wife, the plans are the same as the visitors insurance. You can find them at / They will not cover any expenses for maternity. If you want to buy for you (F1) and F2, you can buy student plans. They will cover maternity if conception ocurrs after the effective date. /international-student-medical-insurance/

Q:Seven Corners Problems Scam Worst insurance scam ever. Bought $50,000 coverage for my visit to the US. Fell sick and was in the hospital for 5 days. The hospital and doctor’s bills came to $46,200. They only paid $5,600. Don’t ever use 7 Corners. They will not honor their insurance agreement. They claim you bought a poor policy with limited coverage. They have so many limitations within sub limitations, that it is impossible to get any actual coverage. The total hospital bill came to $46,200 and they covered $5,600, so I am out of pocket $40,600. They only pay $250 for an emergency room case with all the tests and emergency procedures, (the hospital billed close to $15,540), they only pay $55 for a doctor's visit (every heard of a doctor making calls for that much?) (the hospital charges close to $600 per specialist visit). I’m very upset and disappointed thinking I had $50,000 in medical coverage. I learnt my lesson by using Seven Corners. Be forewarned, their policies are worthless.

A:
Seven Corners offers many different insurance plans, listed at /companies/ You decided to purchase a limited coverage is which is very low cost. Everything is clearly described in the brochure and policy wording, all of which were available to you before purchase and after the purchase. Therefore, what you bought is what you will get covered according to. You can't buy the cheapest plan and hope to cover it the most. I don't know who you purchased the insurance from. However, we as a broker, work for you and try our best to educate our customers and advise them to buy the comprehensive coverage plan. If one plan costs $60/month and another $200/month, both could not be providing the same coverage. Otherwise, the $200/month would not exist because there would be no reason for anyone to buy them. If they paid according to the schedule of benefits that they were supposed to, you can't complain about it. There is no reason for them to pay more. I recommend that you buy the comprehensive coverage in future. Do not make false accusations. From what you wrote, it seems that they have honored their insurance agreement. Dear Mr. Babco, Your claim that Seven Corners does not honor our insurance agreements is untrue. As I have tried to explain in all of my responses, unfortunately travel and visitor’s insurance cannot possibly cover everything. If we covered everything, consumers would not be able to afford the coverage. What we try to do, is provide you with options: Option A URC (Usual, Reasonable, and Customary)-More comprehensive coverage for new accidents, and new illnesses. Comprehensive covers more, so it is more expensive to purchase. Option B Scheduled Benefits-These plans will only pay out to the amounts posted in the policy. They cost less, because they provide limited coverage. Some consumers want to pay less premium, and are willing to take the risk of paying more out of their pocket, in the event of an eligible claim. Other consumers wish to pay more premium, so in the event of an eligible claim, they will have a smaller financial responsibility. We post all of our wording and policy languages upfront prior to purchase. If you research other travel and visitor’s insurance plans, you will see that we are all offering the same types of options. Seven Corners is one of the few companies that publishes all of their documentation, at all times. Seven Corners allows you to chose what you feel is best for you. If you do not understand the wording, we encourage you to please call your agent. Best Regards, Suzanne Munson Customer Service Manager at Seven Corners
