Q:I'll be migrating to Atlanta, Georgia shortly. I'll be shifting from India with my wife Nivetha (aged 32) and son Krish (aged 4). I'll be arriving on an L1 visa and my wife and son will be on an L2. I wanted to buy a short term insurance for a month or so before I settle down and go for permanent health coverage.

A:
Insurance for the interim period until your long-term insurance begins would be a plan called Patriot America Plus . This plan will cover the new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. This plan will only be available until you are eligible to enroll into a long term plan. Q:I am an international graduate student at Florida State University on a F1 visa. I am interested in purchasing the International Student Health Insurance for the upcoming fall semester and waive the requirement for purchasing the university health insurance. I am attaching with this email the waiver questions as a .pdf document and I would like to know if all of them are compliant with the International Student Health Insurance coverage. I understand that I have one than one option for purchasing the InsuBuy Insurance, so it would be great if you can tell me which one(s) satisfies the waiver criteria and how much it will cost me per month (I will turn 30 by the time the insurance takes effect). Finally, I would like to know if you offer a daily rate, which would be helpful if I need coverage for, say, only the first half of a month. Looking forward to hearing back from you,

Q:Between Atlas Premium America and Patriot Platinum America, which coverage is best and which one is most suitable for preexisting conditions?

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy. You may select a policy maximum for the Atlas Premium America of up to $1,000,000. The Patriot Platinum America plan will have policy maximum options of $1,000,000, $5,000,000, and $8,000,000. You may choose either plan option depending on the policy maximum limit you prefer. Neither plan will provide coverage for a pre-existing condition. They are designed to cover any new illness, injury or accident which occurs after the effective date of the policy. The Atlas Premium America plan will provide coverage for the Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition, while the Patriot Platinum America will provide coverage for the Sudden and Unexpected Recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition. Of the two definitions the acute onset also includes coverage for the sudden expected outbreak or recurrence. I have added links to the FAQ's for each clause for your review. Q:Dear Sir/Madam, I am living in India and planning to visit my son who lives in the US for a period of 6 months. I am planning to buy a comprehensive insurance. I was going through the policy wordings of some of the insurance policies like "Patriot America Plus" and "Atlas America" that cover "pre-existing" ailments but I could not understand the legal wordings. My query is - 1) If any pre-existing ailment like DIABETES and HYPERTENSION causes or results any unforeseen medical issue that has never occurred before and that requires hospitalization, will that be covered? 2) If the pre-existing ailment is chronic. If the ailment progresses and causes any acute problems or problems that has not occurred in the history of the patient and the onset of the problem requires hospitalization, will that be covered? 3) If hospitalization occurs as a result of accident, will that be covered? Request you to answer in lay-man terms. thanks and regards

A:
Please see the answers to your questions below. 1. If any pre-existing ailment like DIABETES and HYPERTENSION causes or results any unforeseen medical issue that has never occurred before and that requires hospitalization, will that be covered? The plans are primarily designed to cover any new illness, injury or accident which occurs after the effective date of the policy. They will not cover pre-existing conditions routine doctors' visits, immunizations or medications in relation to a pre-existing condition. The Atlas America and Patriot America Plus plans provide coverage for an acute onset of a pre-existing condition up to the policy maximum for anyone under the age of 70. An acute onset is defined as a sudden and unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition that occurs all of a sudden without any prior symptoms or warnings and treatment must be taken within 24 hours. If something happens to the insured which meets the definition provided the plan would provide coverage. This determination is made by the claims department at the time of the occurrence. The claims department determination whether approval or denial will be made utilizing the attending physicians statement. 2. If the pre-existing ailment is chronic. If the ailment progresses and causes any acute problems or problems that has not occurred in the history of the patient and the onset of the problem requires hospitalization, will that be covered? Chronic or congenital conditions are excluded under the policy. Any ailments which are caused by the congenital condition would also not be covered under the insurance since the exclusion is listed in the policy certificate wording. 3. If hospitalization occurs as a result of accident, will that be covered? If the accident is considered an eligible medical expense the plan would provide coverage for the hospitalization. The benefits would be paid according the guidelines of the policy. You may also obtain assistance by contacting our office at (866) INSUBUY. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
