Q:Patriot America Medication refill My Dad has diabetics, kidney stone and blood pressure problem. He is on medication from past couple of years in India and now he is going to stay here until March 2008. He got prescribed medication for 2 months from India. Doctor allowed only 2 moths of medication. He already got prescriptions for 6 months so that he can refill each month, Now questions are 1) Can i refill his medication here in USA California? If yes what about the payment? 2) Would Pharmacy allow prescription from other country? 3) Another possibility is that I can ask my relative so send the medication by currier from India, any issues with this in terms of custom duties?

A:
1. You will have to get a prescription from US doctor. You will have to pay all the amount yourself. No insurance company is going to pay for it. 2. I don't think so. 3. That is the best option. I myself have done that in past for my visiting relative. They can send it by courier like FedEx, DHL etc. You will have to attach original receipt from pharmacy. They will have to fill a customs form where it describes the medicine, dose, price etc. Most of the couriers have that form automated in their system. The courier charge will be double of normal charge. Another friend of mine and also my customer's mother got sick in couple of days after coming to US. She had malaria which was pre-existing condition and not covered by insurance. As per my advice, he also asked his relative to courier him malaria medicine from Mumbai, India and it worked. Thanks a lot for reply.

Q:Indian Insurance Vs US Visitor Insurance Just need your opinion. I feel buying the insurance in USA is better than buying the insurance in India because for example if you visit PPO doctor they will bill insurance company certain amount for a service but the insurance company will pay negotiated discounted price. Ex: If the doctor bills for $100 to Insurance, the insurance company will pay $30 or $50 and Insurance refuses to pay $30 or $50 we can pay ourselves but if we need to claim from India through any indian insurance company then we have claim for $100. Please let me know my understanding is correct from your experience from SRI or IMG or any company.

A:
PPO network negotiated fees apply only for the covered expenses. For non covered expenses such as pre-existing conditions, it is between you and the provider. Insurance company does not remain into picture at that point. Most US based products we have offer have PPO network, except Inbound USA. Look at /visitor-insurance/ Next to each product, there is a link 'How Plan Works' That would explain you more in detail how that plan works.

Q:short term insurance for new immigrant mother I am looking for a short-term plan for a new GC holder (2 months) with provider networks in CA and MO. Please help. Thanks. NR

A:
Look at Protection America at /patriot-america-lite-insurance/ This link takes me to international visitor's health insurance. My mother has a green card now. Will this be valid for her too? Protection America technically not only the visitors health insurance. It is international health insurance. It is for any non US citizen who wants the coverage outside the country of their CITIZENSHIP on a short term basis. Therefore, she is eligible.

Q:Insurance for GC holder I have a client who is over the age of 65 and the holder of a Green Card. She is asking for information on U. S. Government sponsored health care such as Medicare or Medicaid and retirement benefits such as Social Security. She has not worked in this Country very long. Where should she be referred? Thanks,

A:
Read /new-immigrants-medical-insurance-plans/ They can't get social security until they work for 40 quarters. They can BUY Medicare after being in US for 5 years and be 65+. They can GET Medicaid only after becoming citizen. Immihelp Support No legal advice. Use at your own risk.

Q:Couple of questions on Patriot Insurance Narenda and others, Had couple of questions. I understand the main difference between patriot and protect. If I am buying insurance for 6 months, that difference of buying upfront of 3 months does not apply.. If I am going with patriot (90/10, 250 deductible, 100K), 1. If we need to go urgent care, do we need to pay additional 250 (which is for ER service and not hospitilized)? Assume this urgent care visit is for immediate help and not hospitilization? How about visit to urgent care for injuries? 2. Does this cover Dental/Vision? If we need cleaning or eye checkup, if we pay the deductible, will insurance pay rest after 90/10? How about for getting glasses 3. How much do they pay for ambulance services. 4. I read that we get prescription card that can be used at Walgreens and other places? Does it cover any prescription from the PPO doctor? Thanks

A:
1. If you go to an urgent care, additional $250 does not apply that applies in case of ER. Urgent care is treated just like Dr. office's visit. 2. No, such dental/vision is not covered. Look at Careington at /individual-family-dental-plans/ 3. Just like any other expenses, provided it results in the hospitalization. 4. Covered pharmacies will give discount for most of the drugs, not all. You can look at /universal-rx/ to find out which drugs would be discounted. Of course, this discount is not the only coverage you get. After discount, you are still covered as per deductible, coinsurance etc. You just have to submit the claim to IMG for reimburse for discounted price. I hope that answers your questions.
