Q:I have a question. I am a US citizen residing abroad that will be traveling back to the US for 3 weeks with my kids (dual citizens). I need a medical insurance plan that covers pre-existing conditions. Does your company offer a plan like that?

A:
There is no short term plan available on the market that will cover pre-existing conditions, preventative care, or routine maintenance. Plans available to visitors to the US will cover any new illness or injury that occur after the effective date. The only plans that will cover pre-existing conditions are long term domestic plans.

Q:So these providers in the PPO in network will bill insurance directly and member will only pay the deductible/coinsurance/copay as applicable, can you please advise? Also, should we call these providers before visiting to make sure this is the case and they accept your plan's ID card?

A:
If you choose a provider from the network then there is a better chance they will bill directly. We cannot say yes they will since it is ultimately up to the providers office how they handle billing. Yes, when you call the office to schedule an appointment then you can discuss the network and billing process.

Q:Which plan covers fully for flu shot, TDAP and pre-existing conditions?

A:
There is no insurance plan for an international visitor which provides coverage for preventive care like immunization or flu shots. Insurance will not provide any routine maintenance for pre-existing conditions. However, some plan provides coverage for an acute onset of pre-existing conditions.

Q:I want to purchase some travel insurance and prefer the Atlas America plan. I have couple questions before I make my decision. I do not understand the part about deductible. What is the difference and what is the best option? Is it possible to pay monthly? Paying through an automatic draft would be best for me. I would prefer something monthly until I decide to quit.

A:
A deductible is the amount the insured agrees to pay before the insurance begins to pay its portion. You can select the deductible that you would like keeping in mind this is the amount that you must be prepared to pay out of pocket anything were to happen. You can purchase for 1 month and renew the Atlas America plan every month thereafter with a $5.00 renewal fee in addition to your premium. Unfortunately, there is not an automatic draft option so you will have to remember to renew every month. Once a plan expires you cannot renew the plan you will be required to purchase a new plan. We will send you renewal reminders 2 weeks before, 1 week before and the last day of coverage reminding you to renew your plan. You will be able to renew online or over the phone.
