Q:I am a GT student at Georgia Tech.! I will be starting my OPT in Atlanta in a firm from August. I am currently in Europe for my program but I need health insurance from 30th July 2019 for at least 6 months up to 1 year. Please share the best packages with me. I would prefer to go to a clinic once a month and might involve a few diagnostic tests once in 3 months. Please suggest me if you have good plans.

A:
The plans will cover any new illness or injury after the effective date. You mentioned going to a clinic once a month and possible tests. In that case, if you are eligible for a domestic plan through your employer then we would recommend choosing that so you would have coverage for ongoing treatment. Some plans in the OPT section will cover pre-existing conditions but only after a waiting period and some have a limit on how much will be covered. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I had a few questions about purchasing Patriot America Plus. Can I purchase the policy for a duration of 1 week and then extend it for 5 months? Since the policy covers preexisting conditions do I need a pre-approval checkup? I also wanted to know if there are any insurance plans that cover general checkup and doctor visits.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Yes, you can purchase the plan for one week and then extend. There is actually no plan on the market for visitors that will cover pre-existing conditions. Plans will cover any new illness or injury that occur after the effective date and some plans include the Acute Onset benefit. Here is a link for more information on the Acute Onset /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ ; There is no check-up required to purchase a plan. When you say general checkup are you referring to a well exam? If so, there is no plans available for visitors that will cover that except for the Safe Travels plans that offer $75 /safe-travel-insurance/wellness-visit/ if all of the conditions are met. The cost of a well exam is much more than the benefit provided. The plans will cover doctor visits for a covered illness or injury.
