Q:My parents would be visiting me from India in December this year, I am currently living in New York. 1) I just want to know if any health insurance plan covers pre existing conditions also and if yes then are there any limitations with them? My father has a heart problem so want to get medical plan that covers this so in case needed, I can get him treated here. 2) Also want to confirm that the medical insurance plan would be in effect at that moment when I buy it..Correct? For e.g. if I purchase a medical insurance plan tonight and if my parents need to see a doctor tomorrow morning or few minutes after purchasing a plan then its not a problem even if its for pre existing condition treatment.. Correct? 3) Are there any restrictions or wait period after purchasing a plan before seeing the doctor especially for pre existing conditions?

A:
Plans are designed to cover the new accidents and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. Plans do not cover pre-existing conditions or maintenance visits as it relates to pre-existing conditions, preventative care or medications as it relates to pre-existing conditions. These are all costs that would have to be paid for out of pocket should they be required. Some plan will offer coverage for an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition. Please see the link for a detailed description of and acute onset of a pre-existing condition. The determination of an acute onset of a pre-existing condition will be determined at the time of the claim according to the certificate wording and the attending physician notes. The plans will start and be effective from the future date selected for the plan to start. The plan cover the proposed insured anywhere outside of their home country. Coverage is not available within their home country. If you need any additional clarification please contact our office.
