Q:My spouse, son and I are citizens of the US, Canada and one of the EU countries. I am retired and now have Medicare coverage and we reside 6-7 months in Washington state We travel to Europe where we typically stay 5-6 months and usually over the winter so we are not here during the standard enrollment period. During our stay in Europe we are covered under their national health care system but when we return what are our options? I don't want to keep paying for an ACA compliant plan that wouldn't cover us anyway. Could we enroll during the normal enrollment period and cancel coverage when we return to Europe. How do retirees manage that are dual citizens and retire and split their time between the two countries for which they are citizens.

A:
While we understand that it can be difficult to navigate your situation, unfortunately we would not be able to advise on domestic insurance plans or your ability to cancel them or not. The plans on our website are designed to cover you outside of your home country, and if you are eligible for domestic insurance you are not eligible for the plans that we offer to cover you in the US. I would recommend to speak to a insurance agent that specializes in domestic insurance. If you have any additional questions please call our office at 1(866) 467-8289.
