Q:I'm trying to buy travel insurance for my mom and I have a question about age. My mom is coming to the U.S.. I would like to buy her an insurance that will start on Sep 12 and end on Nov 15. She is 69 now and her birthday will be in Oct.. So, when I buy the insurance for her, I think her age should be "65-69", since the insurance start date is Sep 12 and she will not be 70 yet on Sep 12. Please confirm it with me if my understanding is correct.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy. You are correct she would not yet be 70 so the correct age to select is 65-69. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:Medical insurance for visiting parents My parents will be visiting me in CA from India for about 6 weeks. They are in the 64-69 yr age group. I wanted to get some recommendations from you on which plan to buy. I need a PPO that has a wide network of providers with coverage for preexisting conditions. Please let me know what else you need from me make some recommendations.

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. As a broker, we provide insurance from many companies. Essentially all the plan fall into two categories. Fixed and comprehensive. Fixed plan costs less and provide limited coverage while comprehensive plans are very similar to our domestic short term plan with PPO network. If you are looking for some plan with PPO network. You need to go for comprehensive plan. You can purchase either Atlas America or Patriot America Plus plan. None of the plan pay for any routine maintenance for the pre-existing conditions. However some plan provides coverage for acute onset of pre-existing for the age below 70yrs. . More information on acute onset of pre-ex, /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ If you provide your parents age, travel date. We will be glad to send quote by e-mail. You can also visit our website at www.insubuy.com Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans, you can narrow by plans with pre-ex coverage and you can also compare them side by side. If you have any further questions feel free to call our office at (866)INSUBUY and any agent in our office will be glad to help you to choose the right plan as per your requirements. Have a great day! Thank you for your quick response. I am trying to decide between Atlas America and Atlas Premium America and I was wondering about the preexisting conditions clause. For example, my dad has had a heart bypass a few years ago and my mother suffers from hypertension. Both conditions are not actively ailing either one of them but what if their existing illness causes an event that needs medical attention, will this be covered? Or will it be considered a preexisting condition (not an acute onset) and excluded from coverage? Thank you. The Acute onset of a pre-existing condition clause is the same with either plan. This is defined as a sudden and unexpected recurrence of a pre-existing condition that occurs spontaneously without any advance warning and treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the occurrence. If something happens to one of the insureds, the claims department will utilize the attending physician statement to determine whether or not the situation fits the acute onset definition. Under either plan option, this benefit is covered up to the policy maximum. We have included a link to our acute onset of a pre-existing condition FAQ. If you have any additional questions please contact our office at (866) 467-8289. Acute Onset of a Pre-existing condition: /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/

Q:Use of visitor Medical insurance I want to know how long does it take before I can use the insurance, after buying one. For example, if I buy it today, can I use it tomorrow?

A:
Yes, you can purchase the plan one day to be effective the next. The plan will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date. The plans will not cover any pre-existing condition or preventative care. So if someone is currently sick and you purchase the plan then take them to the doctor the next day, that would not be covered. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:Multiple Comprehensive Coverages for Parent I just purchased "Atlas America" insurance through Insubuy for one of my parents (71 years old) who will be visiting me in the US shortly. The coverage is for $100K with a $2500 deductible (ID number A91458397). In addition to the above, I am also considering purchase of "Patriot Platinum Plus" for the same parent with $100K coverage and $10,000 deductible. I wanted to understand how to use the two insurance coverage together in case of an emergency incident. I have the following specific questions: • Which of the above insurance should I use first (assuming that the hospital used is part of the First Health Network)? • Does the insurance that I use second, cover the deductible of the insurance that was used first? Thanks in advance and best regards,

A:
It is not recommended that you purchase the Patriot Platinum Plus plan as you would then have 2 secondary insurance plans and this can get very cumbersome when it comes time for claims. It is recommended that you purchase a plan called Safe Travels USA as this plan will act as a primary insurance and will coordinate benefits with the Atlas America plan that you have purchased. In purchasing the Safe Travel USA plan with a $50K maximum it will be less expensive and you will have a Primary and a Secondary plan rather than 2 secondary plans. Please use the link listed below to review this plan and to generate a quote. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office. Safe Travels USA brochure & instant purchase link: /safe-travels-usa-insurance/ Thanks for your input. I intend to proceed with "Safe Travels USA". I did have one followup though - I am not sure I understand the difference between primary and secondary. When I look at the Atlas insurance literature, it does not seem to use the words primary and secondary. I wanted to educate myself on this topic before purchasing. The way insurance works, if you have two insurance plans that can pay for the same situation then one insurance will be primary and will pay first and the other insurance plan will be secondary and will pay next. Take the example of a car accident. If there is car insurance then it would be responsible first and then if it reaches its max then a medical plan can start paying where the car insurance left off. Plans for visitors as a rule are secondary plans. The exception to this is the Safe Travels USA plan. It is a primary plan. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office. Thank you. Would you mind pointing out which feature of Safe Travel USA makes it a primary plan. To my layman eyes it looks quite similar to Atlas. I just want to make sure I am adequately educated on this topic. It’s in the Safe Travels USA certificate wording /safe-travels-usa/visitors-health-insurance.pdf that it says under primary benefits that it will pay primary. The details of any plan can be found in their certificate wording. In the certificate wording for Atlas America it states that they will not pay primary that instead “This insurance will apply with respect to expenses in excess of the amount paid or payable under such other insurance.” Got it. Thank you so much! You’re welcome, if you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our office.
