Q:Hi, I recently had to visit the hospital in Costa Rica for a stomach parasite. I have the final receipt which is 110,372 (colones) or about US178.31. I thought my insurance had a co-pay or deductible attached but there seems to be none when I checked. Can I confidently claim for the full cost of my medical consultation and treatments?

A:
Insurance will pay for whatever treatment medically necessary as long as it's not related to pre-existing conditions or preventive care. You can submit claim forms using MyAccount

Q:Does insurance cover treatment after the coverage period if the disease lasts longer?

A:
This depends on the plan you have purchased. Some plans have what is called a "benefit period" which will allow for the continued duration of coverage for a covered illness or injury that was treated during the coverage period of the plan. However, if there were something going on that you were receiving treatment for that was covered under the policy, it would be recommended to extend the coverage to ensure that you are receiving continued coverage for such expenses. Keep in mind the plans exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions, preventative and routine care. They are designed to allow for the coverage for the new illnesses and injuries that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. For further assistance in picking a plan with such benefits or questions regarding a specific plan you may also call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.
