Q:I am an international student who will attend Brown University in Rhode Island next fall. That is why I need an insurance plan that has to cover the Brown Requirements. I am attaching the file that Brown has sent me. In that file you can find the requirements. If 'Student Health Advantage Standard' program fulfills every requirement, I am going to purchase it. However, I wasn't able to compare 'Student Health Advantage Standard' to Brown Student Health Insurance. Could you help me on that and perhaps compare the two for me? I really need help because I didn't quite understand Student Health Advantage Standard's coverage. I really want to purchase this insurance if it is applicable for me. I am forwarding the message that Brown University has sent me about comparable coverage. 'The level of benefits provided through your health insurance plan must be fully-compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and meet or exceed the benefits provided through the school-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Coverage is considered comparable if it provides students with access to local providers and a range of services in and around the area where you attend school. Services include, but are not limited to, preventive and non-urgent care, emergency care, surgical care, inpatient and outpatient hospitalization, lab work, diagnostic x-rays, physical therapy and chiropractic care, prescription drugs, mental health and substance abuse treatment. If your current plan is an HMO, it is very likely that coverage is limited, or not available, outside of the HMO's service area. Before deciding whether or not to waive coverage, compare your current health insurance plan to the SHIP to look at cost-sharing levels (deductibles and coinsurance) and access to In-Network Providers. The amount of your current plan's deductible and InNetwork and Out-of-Network coinsurance may result in high out-of-pocket costs. Plans that are not considered comparable include: plans that only provide emergency services in the campus area, plans that are purchased on a short term basis, plans that are international or travel insurance, or out-of-state Medicaid plans.'

A:
Thank you for providing the requirements. Unfortunately, there are no plans available since your University requires that the "health insurance plan must be fully-compliant with the Affordable Care ACT (ACA)". We would recommend purchasing from your University directly. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I am going to visit University of California Los Angeles from 4th June to 1st September. I have J1 visa, and my wife and two children J2 visas. My wife and I are 29 years old. My sons are 4 and 1 years old. I need the cheapest plan that covers the duration of my visit and satisfies the requirements below (https://clients.garnett-powers.com/vs/ucla/): $100,000 per accident & illness in medical coverage A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness Coinsurance that does not exceed 25% Medical evacuation coverage must be at least $50,000 Repatriation coverage must be at least $25,000 Pre-existing conditions must be covered by the insurance policy with a waiting period no longer than 12 months. Pre-existing conditions must also have a $100,000 per illness medical coverage. Please note: Policy with coverage for only Acute onset of pre-existing conditions do not meet this requirement. Carrier must be at least A- rated or backed by the full faith and credit of the Exchange Visitor's government.

A:
Unfortunately, there is not a plan that we can offer you to meet your sponsoring organizations requirements for coverage. It is recommended that you purchase coverage from your University. If you need any clarification please contact our office.

Q:I want to find the appropriate health insurance for my parents. My parents are visiting me in Chicago, IL from 6/2017 to 9/2017. They are permanent residents of USA. They are both under 65. Aside from emergencies, their medical need is to continue to follow up current medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc). Would you please let me know the best plan for them?

A:
Unfortunately, there are no short term plans that will cover routine care or pre-existing conditions to anyone looking for coverage even as a permanent resident. This kind of coverage is only available under a domestic insurance that is ACA compliant. The plans will only cover the new accident and new illness that occur after the effective date of the policy. Please use the link below to review the available plans and coverages: New Immigrant Insurance Feel free to contact our office if you need assistance.

Q:I would like to purchase a medical insurance (Atlas Essential) for J1 from your company but my citizenship is Iran. So, my application was not accepted due to US economic sanction and embargo programs. I have to purchase an insurance in the next three days. Could you please tell me what I should do to solve this big problem? The type of my visa is J1 and I want to be in USA (university of Arkansas for medical sciences, Little Rock, Arkansas) for 6 months (till 15 Nov 2017). The coverage of my insurance should be as the text shown below. Medical insurance must cover the entire period of participation in the Exchange Visitor program. Effective May 15, 2015, J-1 insurance coverage requirements are as follows: - Provide a minimum of $100,000 per accident or illness. - Medical evacuation (emergency medical transportation to the home country) must be covered in the amount of $50,000. - Repatriation (the transportation of remains back to the home country in the unfortunate event of death) must be covered in the amount of $25,000. - The deductible must not exceed $500 per accident or illness.

A:
Atlas Exchange has country restriction for Iran. You can purchase Patriot Exchange Program plan which is very similar to Atlas Exchange, it meets standard J1 visa requirements and there is no country restriction for Iran. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
