Q:J1 insurance Hello! I am currently holding a J1 health insurance plan with ISO, which I purchased myself for a year coverage from 11/11/2015-11/10/2016. I am hoping to extend it right now for my J1 extension till 11/10/2017, but the ISO company does not provide extension till early April. I am looking for other insurance company and hope to get a competitive price as ISO, too. The insurance coverage from school is listed. Thank you for your assistance! J-1 health insurance must provide the following minimum coverage: 1. Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness; 2. Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000; 3. Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of exchange visitors to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000; and 4. Deductibles not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. Any policy, plan, or contract secured to fill the above requirements must, at a minimum, be: 5. Underwritten by an insurance corporation having an A.M. Best rating of A or above; a McGraw Hill Financial/Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of A or above; a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above; a Fitch Ratings, Inc. rating of A or above; a Moodys Investor Services rating of A or above; or such other rating as the Department of State may from time to time specify; or 6. Backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the exchange visitors home country; or 7. Part of a health benefits program offered on a group basis to employees or enrolled students by a designated sponsor; or 8. Offered through or underwritten by a federally qualified Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or eligible Competitive Medical Plan (CMP) as determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Q:J1 insurance policy fulfillment Dear Insubuy, I am residing in Seoul, South Korea now. I need to buy Patriot Exchange insurance for my postdoctoral position in University of Arizona, starting from April 01, 2016. May I ask if you can deliver the real insurance card into my address in South Korea? Because I didn't see you mention card delivery outside of US. Thank you for your reading.

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Under Patriot Exchange plan as soon as you purchase insurance will receive confirmation by e-mail which will have virtual id card and other important document and next business days insurance card will be mailed to you on whichever address you specify in the application. Patriot Exchange brochure, instant purchase and other useful information, /patriot-exchange-program-insurance/ Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Thank you for your quick reply, I have one more questions concerning a suitable plan. Besides Patriot Exchange plan, could you suggest another suitable plan for my situation below: Because my employee insurance from University of Arizona may kick in within 12 to 24 days from my starting day (April 1, 2016). I think I need a plan which can be renewed during the above mentioned time, more importantly, it can satisfy the below requirements. US DEPARTMENT OF STATE REQUIREMENTS • medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness • a co-payment not greater than 25% of the covered benefits per accident or illness • a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness • a waiting period for pre-existing conditions that is reasonable by current industry standards • coverage for activities inherent to the exchange program (i.e., flight training for an aviation school) • repatriation of remains in an amount of $25,000 • expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000 The Patriot Exchange Program will be the best plan to meet the listed requirements. The plan can be purchased monthly so if you purchase for 1 month if you need to extend the plan you would be able to. If you need any additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Q:J1 and maternity insurance What would happen if my wife get pregnant during the time we are there in US? Is there any insurance to cover this kind of situation?

A:
What type of visa will you be coming to the US on? by J1. Visiting scholar. i have plan to stay there for 9- 10 months. There are plans that cover maternity for J1/J2 but the pregnancy would have to be after the policy effective date and in some cases would require a waiting period before coverage would begin. You would also have to make sure that any plan you choose meets any requirements set by your sponsor. If you have any requirements that need to be met please forward those requirements as a PDF attachment and then we can recommend a plan.

Q:J1 and J2 Insurance questions Dear Sir, dear Madam, I am on J1-Visa (started August 1, 2015, country of provenience: Italy, country of residence: Germany) as visiting assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and my family (wife, 34, two daughters, respectively 4 and 2, all on a J2-Visa, all with German passport and resident in Germany) accompanies me. Until April 30 we will be covered by the medical insurance of the University of Notre Dame. However we will stay until August 15, so we are looking for alternatives to COBRA from May 1 to August 15. The compliance form of UND states the following requirements for a medical insurance: I understand that the Federal Regulations governing the J-1 visa program require that J-1 visa holders and their J-2 dependents carry insurance coverage that meets certain requirements which are set out in the federal regulations. At least $100,000 per person per accident or illness; at least $25,000 for repatriation of remains; at least $50,000 for medical evacuation to the home country; and a deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. Co-insurance may not exceed 25% payable by the Exchange Visitor or sponsor. Acceptable coverage may not exclude risk inherent in the activities of your Exchange Visitor program. The company providing the insurance coverage must have an A.M. Best rating of ?A-? or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd., (ISI) rating of ?A-1? or above, a Standard & Poor?s Claims-paying Ability rating of ?A-? or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of ?B+? or above; or backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the exchange visitor?s home country; or offered through or underwritten by a federally qualified Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) or eligible Competitive Medical Plan (CMP) as determined by the Health Care Financing Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Is there any plan in your offer which complies with these regulations and how high would the monthly premium be? Thank you very much for your help.
