Q:I'm a US citizen (32 years old) living abroad and my husband (32 years old, French citizen) and 17 month-old (French/American) will be traveling to the US for 3 weeks (July 9-July29). Neither my husband or I have pre-existing conditions. However, my daughter has strong food allergies; is this covered by your medical insurance? This is very important that I have it clearly stated that emergency medical costs associated with her food allergies would be covered. Her last allergic episode was about 1 year ago. I was hoping to get a quote for our trip. Thanks very much for your help.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy. The available plans are designed to cover the new accidents and new illness that happen after the effective date of the policy. There are no plans on the market that cover pre-existing conditions or anything considered Chronic or Congenital.

Q:I can't find the link to buy insurance as an American who lives abroad and is visiting the US. I've bought it before but can't find it on the site. If it's still available, could you please send me a link? Thank you!

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. The plans have changed and the plan you purchased before is no longer available. You can find the available plans on our website www.insubuy.com by entering in the required information or you can purchase the Patriot America Plus which is the plan we recommend. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I'm considering 'Atlas America' and 'Safe Travels USA Comprehensive' with 100K coverage for a 75 year old. I like the pre-existing conditions coverage on Safe Travels but I'm concerned that GBG Insurance has a lower AM Best rating and that Safe Travels isn't mentioned under the Best Insurance options (https://www.insubuy.com/best-visitors-insurance/). Have you received negative feedback about the Safe Travels plans and would you recommend selecting Atlas America instead? Is the $25K limit for pre-existing condition medical evacuation in addition to the 100K policy coverage or does it deduct from the policy maximum? The Travel section of the coverage description includes an allowance for Emergency Medical Evacuation/Repatriation. If a condition arises where we think it makes financial sense to return home, how would we determine whether the condition qualifies for repatriation coverage?

A:
For someone that is 75 years old we recommend the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive. There have been several changes to the Safe Travels plans that make them a very good option and they are the only plan that offers the Acute Onset benefit for someone over 69. Medical evacuation is a separate benefit. As for the final question, medical evacuation is going to provide transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:My father who is 75 will be visiting me in New York for 35 days in the summer. I am looking for short-term health insurance to cover any unexpected illness during the stay, inclusive of his pre-exisiting illness (high blood pressure). He will be using B1/B2 visa, arriving July 26 and leaving on Aug.29.

A:
The plan we would recommend is the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive. We have emailed the quotes for the available plans. Plans will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date. The Safe Travels USA Comprehensive is one of the only plans that also include the Acute Onset benefit for someone over the age of 70. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.
