Q:Insurance for aging mother My mother will be arriving in a few months as a new immigrant (green card). She is 81 years old, and in good health for her age. I'm shopping for medical insurance plans, and am disappointed to note that the maximum coverage available is only $50k. What are my options?

A:
The most suitable product would be the bridge plan. It is specifically designed for elderly new immigrants to the United States. Look at /bridge-plan/health-insurance/ Only other product that gives $70,000 policy maximum is Inbound USA, available at /safe-travels-elite-insurance/ However, this plan is fixed coverage plan and only pays a portion of the bill. More details about fixed coverage at /visitors-insurance/ I am sorry that, at that age, there is no much choice available. We, as a broker, work with most major companies in the US. However, most of the companies are not willing to insure that old person.

Q:Question About the insurance plan Hi, I want to take an insurance for my parents who will be visiting USA on Sep 17. I am leaning towards the fixed plans namely Visitors Care and INbound USA. From what I can see from comparison is that visitors care has a PPO netwrok, but Inbound USA doesnot. 1) Does it mean that for visitors care we can go to those doctors mentioned in the network and we just need to pay the deductible. 2) For Inbound USA we can go to any hospitals we want, DO we need to pay the whole amount out of our pocket and then claim later. 3) It appears that visitors care does not cover INitial Prosthesis and Braces and chemotherapy and radiation therapy. 4) which one is the best and why. Please respond. Thanks

A:
1. It will not cover everything after the deductible. It will cover according to the schedule of benefits listed at /visitors-care/visitor-medical-insurance/ And you pay the rest. 2. Read /fixed-coverage-visitors-insurance-ppo-network/ 3. That's right. 4. You can visit https://www.insubuy.com, make a detailed comparision and determine which one would work better for you. Some features may be more important to you than others. If you have any other specific questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Insurance for parents 67 and 72 My parents are planning to visit America for 4 months in next few weeks. What is the best insurance plan for them. They might have preexisting condition like diabetes. Which plan would you recommend? I read through the plan and saw patriot america and worldmed recomended in the forum. which plan is better for them. My dad is 72 and Mom is 67. Thanks, Bala

A:
Bala, If you would like to purchase $50,000, go for Patriot America. For $100,000, go for WorldMed. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Insurance for Mother on GC Hi: This is my first query. My mother (64yrs) will be coming to USA in jan 2008 on a GC. The only diagnosis that she has had in the past are psoriasis and stable angina. She did not have heart attack or by-pass or diabetes or stroke. She has ahd no problems in the last 3- 4 years. My specific questions are: 1. How long should a condition exist to be considered pre-existing? In her specific case she has been labelled as having angina although she has had no symtoms now for last several years and her medical evaluation is normal. If she has a heart attack would it be considered as pre-existing condition as she has be diagnozed with "angina" in the past. 2. My understanding is that she will have to buy a "bridge" insurance for 5 years on GC then "buy" Medicare part A. If thsu is true what are the insurance options in the state of WI? 3. Is there any plan for prescription drug coverage? Thanks in advance :)

A:
1. Most likely, it would be considered as pre-existing condition in all products. 2. Yes, you have to buy "bridge" insurance. And we have such plan. Appropriately, the name of the product itself is "The Bridge Plan". Look for the product at /new-immigrants-health-insurance/ Such products will provide coverage for any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the policy. It will not cover any pre-existing medical conditions. 3. Bridge plan does not cover outpatient prescription drugs. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post them here or contact us at any time.

Q:Clarification on Patriot GoTravel America Can you please advise if the deductible amount quoted on IMG policies (specifically Patriot GoTravel America) is per sickness/accident or per policy period? i.e. if a deductible is $250 and the policy is 90/10 and I have the following scenario: Doctor visit 1: $500 invoice Doctor visit 2: $1000 invoice Emergency Room: $1000 invoice and no admittance in hospital. Is my payment: #1 a. Doctor visit 1: $250 + 0.1*250 = $275 b. Doctor visit 2: $250 + 0.1*750 = $325 c. Emergency Room: $250 + $250 (additional deductible) + 0.1*500 = $550 Or #2 a. Doctor visit 1: $250 + 0.1*250 = $275 b. Doctor visit 2: 0.1*1000 = $100 (because deductible is paid for policy period) c. Emergency Room: $250 (additional deductible) + 0.1*750 = $325 Thanks, Jasmeet

A:
It is per policy period. Therefore, what you described in #2 would be applicable. Thank you for the prompt response. My parents will be here for 4 months. Since, you probably see some of the costs of treatment involved, I wanted to get your opinion on the coverage amount - $100,000 or $500,000? Also, would IMG be paying negotiated rates or "rack" rates? I am trying to understand how much hospitalization will cost with IMG negotiated rates. Thanks, Jasmeet While $100,000 is a decent amount, I have purchased $500,000 when my own relavites visited USA in past. $100,000 will cover most expenses, but I have seen some claims beyond that. Insurance company will pay network negotiated rates for the covered expenses. For non covered expenses, it will be between you and the provider. It is difficult to give any kind of estimate how much the hospitalization will cost per day. It drastically varies depending upon the circumstances, the treatment given, geographic location of the hospital etc. I have seen around $2,000 per day to even $40,000 in a day.

Q:Patriot vs Protection America - renewability question My folks are visiting for ~2 months. It is unlikely that they will stay longer. Patriot seems to be the better choice due to 90/10 at a cheaper premium than 80/20 with Protection America. The caveat is the renewability - cannot renew with Patriot with initial <3 months. I would only need to renew if one of them falls sick and is unable to travel back. In that case, when I attempt to extend their stay, would the hospitalization count as pre-existing condition and the coverage stop the day the original contract expires? Even though the only reason is due to health and inability to travel as a result of that?

A:
Yes, that is exactly why you should purchase Protection America. We have had customers who ran into that kind of situation and badly wanted to renew the policy. Visit /patriot-america-lite/medical-insurance/ and read the message you see in the dialog box. If renewal were not of any importance, the same company would not charge more money for the same kind of product. There would be no reason for such products to even exist. I have a couple of questions along the same lines. My parents(74 & 63 yrs) are visiting us next week for about 2.5 months. I'm also contemplating between Patriot and Protection America. 1. Are there any differences between them other than the renewability? 2. Say If buy the insurance from Patriot for 2.5 months and if for some reasons they have to extend their stay, can I then buy from Protection? I see from their brochure you could do it if you show the proof of prior insurance. I just wanted to confirm my understanding with you. 3. Do do you recommend any other insurance considering their age? Thanks. 1. Only other difference is that in Patriot America, you get 90/10 coinsurance by default, whlie in Protection America, you can choose 80/20 or 90/201 2. You could buy a new policy. But if get into any problem during previous 2.5 months, it would be considered as pre-existing condition when you buy new policy. And your deductible and coinsurance would be start all over again. 3. If you want to buy $50,000, these plans are the best. If you want to buy $100,000 comprehensive for your father, I would recommend, WorldMed, available at /worldmed-insurance/ Thanks for your immediate response. I have a question on this co-insurance. Is 80/20 or 90/10 applicable per policy period or per sickness? Per policy period. One more question. Since my father is over 70 and when I include both my father and mother in one application, the maximum coverage is limited to $50,000. I would like to get $100,000 for my mother and $50,000 for my father. Can I apply seperately(I think I can)? Is there any difference between applying together as opposed to applying seperately. Thanks. You make separate application for each person. Anyway, there is no difference in price.
