Q:I am looking for medical insurance for my wife. She is a Brazilian citizen living in Connecticut with a J-2 visa. I am a J-1 student with health insurance provided by my sponsoring university. A requirement for her visa is to have medical insurance with the following minimum coverage: 1. $100,000 per accident or illness 2. A deductible of no more than $500 per illness and a co-pay not to exceed 25% 3. Medical evacuation in the amount of $50,000. Evacuation refers to transporting an injured person for medical treatment. 4. Repatriation coverage for up to $25,000. Repatriation refers to transporting a body to the country of citizenship after death. I would like to know if she could buy insurance from InsuBuy as a Brazilian Citizen who spends about 10 months per year in the US with a J-2 visa. Ideally, we would like to renew the insurance for the next 5 years. Do you recommend any particular plan for our needs? Lastly, part of the legal requirement for the corporation underwriting is to have the minimum rating requirement: "A.M. Best rating of "A" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard and Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A" or above, a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of "B+" or above". Can you confirm that the corporation which underwrites the insurance fulfills such requirements or point to a source where I could check this information?

Q:I understand you offer policies that work for passengers traveling to the USA from Europe/Middle East? Is it only for US citizens? Coverage is needed in the USA. This would be for pax traveling from Israel to US. (They are US citizens, but not US residents.)

A:
You do not have to be a U.S. citizen to purchase coverage. You just need to be traveling outside of your home country. For US citizens visiting the US we would recommend the Patriot America Plus plan.

Q:I am looking to buy travel insurance for 2 visitors to the USA for about 6 months. They are both over 70 years of age. My specific concern is about pre-existing conditions coverage. Some of your plans indicate coverage for "acute onset of preexisting conditions" and others indicate "sudden and unexpected recurrence of preexisting condition". I went thru https://www.insubuy.com/sudden-and-unexpected-recurrence-of-pre-existing-conditions/ and https://www.insubuy.com/visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ I want to understand what that means in my specific context. Below are some of the details: They both are diabetic and hypertensive and take medications for these and cholesterol. One of them has had a bypass surgery while the other has had a hip surgery. From your webpage I do understand that there are no guarantees on the matter. So with these conditions what are examples of acute onset that may be covered and what may not be covered? Similarly for "sudden and unexpected recurrence". If the answer depends on the specific plan, please provide plan wise details. Lastly I read in many of the plans (e.g. Patriot Platinum Plans and Atlas plans) that if the condition is chronic (e.g. if you are taking medications for it on an ongoing basis) it is not considered preexisting/acute onset and hence not covered at all. Is that true? My concern is about emergencies arising out diabetes or hypertension in my case and not their regular medications. Are there any plans that cover?

A:
In general, "sudden and unexpected recurrence of pre-existing conditions" is a smaller subset of "acute onset of pre-existing conditions". You would have coverage for more scenarios in acute onset of pre-existing conditions. Therefore, I suggest that you purchase Atlas America as it provides the most amount of coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions for 70-79 years age group. Here is a link for more information about the coverage for Chronic Conditions under the Acute onset benefit. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our office at any time.

Q:Are the rates listed to be payable at once, in advance, or as monthly premiums?

A:
Generally, the premium shown is for the total duration that is entered in the quote. If you want to pay monthly then you would put the dates for one month and then most plans are extendable. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.
