Q:I would like to get information regarding insurance for my 22 year old daughter who graduated from AMDA in NY beginning of February 2020 and is currently living in Manhattan. She just received her Optional Practical Training for F-1 students and is now seeking to get medical insurance for the next 12 months. Would love to hear from you regarding her options.

A:
Because your daughter is in New York, the plan options will be limited. The plans that we would recommend would be one of the 4 below: - Patriot America - Patriot America Plus - Safe Travels USA Comprehensive - Safe Travels USA Cost Saver You can run quotes through these links as well. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q:I recently received an email explaining Coronavirus coverage in international insurance plans. It mentioned if the policy holder is traveling to a country which is declared hit by the pandemic, the policy wouldn't cover it. What if the policy holder, currently in the US since Dec 2019, is affected by the virus in the US?

A:
Your plan does not exclude coverage for the Coronavirus, and you did not travel to a country with a level 3 travel warning. Therefore, if you were to be diagnosed with Coronavirus, it would be treated as any other new illness. Of course like all new illnesses, if it were determined that the illness was manifesting before the effective date, making it a pre-existing condition, it would not be covered. Otherwise, if determined to have manifested after the effective date of your policy, you would have coverage up to the plan's benefit levels. However, this is a rapidly evolving situation. Make sure to confirm the most current information.

Q:My in-laws are 60 and 61. They are in Seattle, WA, USA on a tourist visa and would like to buy health insurance. They are Indian Citizens and have been here since 2/7/2020. Could you please advise on health insurance policies. Also, wondering if it would make any difference in buying it before or after the arrival.

A:
The plan that we would recommend would be the Patriot America Plus plan. It's a comprehensive plan therefore covering at higher benefit levels for covered expenses. All plans on the market for visitors cover for new illnesses and new injuries that occur or manifest after the effective date. They do not cover things that are preventative, routine, or pre-existing. Some plans do include Acute Onset benefits of pre-existing conditions. This plan also offers acute onset benefits for their age groups. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
