Q:Buying the insurance for my mother, who will be living with me in the state of Maryland. Is there any insurance that is offered. She is traveling on B2 visitors Visa. Age is 91 years.

A:
If she has already arrived, we would not have any plans available. However if she has not yet arrived one of our Atlas Plans could cover her. The policy would have to be purchased before arrival. If the insured is physically located in Maryland at the time of application she would not be eligible for the Atlas plans. The policy maximums at that age will be limited. You would search in the quote screen using the policy maximum range of $10,000-$25,000. Also, the plans for visitors cover new illnesses and new injuries that occur or manifest after the effective date. There are no plans on the market for visitors that cover pre-existing conditions. Some plans do have what is called an Acute onset benefit that can provide coverage in certain emergency situations due to pre-existing conditions based on the definition of acute onset as well as the attending physicians report however acute onset benefits are not available to anyone over the age of 89. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q:I'll be participating in visiting scholar program in USA for 1 year. I'm interested in IMG Patriot Platinum America and Patriot exchange, both have zero deductible option. I do interested in high coverage of Patriot Platinum America. However, Patriot Platinum America is not really specify under J exchange VISA category in IMG website(actually in Travel insurance) and do not have specific coverage for medical evacuation and return of mortal remain. So Is this plan qualify for J1 VISA exchange program or should I choose Patriot exchange instead? Here is additional on J1 health insurance requirement for Stanford University. Not sure that some travel insurances such as Atlas America, Patriot Platinum America are qualify for J1. Insurance Requirements - Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness. - Repatriation* of remains in the amount of $25,000. - Expenses associated with the medical evacuation* of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000. - A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. - If a particular activity is a part of your Exchange Visitor program, your insurance must cover injuries resulting from your participation in that activity. - The policy may establish a waiting period before it covers pre-existing conditions (health problems you had before you bought the insurance), as long as the waiting period is reasonable by current standards in the insurance industry. - The policy must be backed by the full faith and credit of your home country government or the company providing the insurance must meet minimum rating requirements established by DOS (an A. M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard & Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above).

A:
The Patriot Platinum America plan does meet the basic J1 requirements but Stanford University has additional requirements that are not met by that plan. According to the requirements below the plan you choose must cover pre-existing conditions. In the past we have always recommended the Student Secure Elite plan; for Stanford University students. The Elite plan has a $500,000 policy max.

Q:I'm applying for my visa J-1. Should I already have my visa when I activate the insurance? Which of the plans in the link, you advise me to buy, based of my requirements?

A:
Based on the basic J1 requirements you have listed, any of the plans that come up after entering your information in the quote screen would be available to you based on your citizenship and the state in the U.S. you will be coming to. We cannot advise on when you would need to purchase the insurance, but you would need coverage once entering the U.S.

Q:I purchased the insurance through your network last year. And I'll travel to the US again this month. So could you kindly sent me the link of the insurance plan as those of last year. Or is there any recommendation of other plan this year?

A:
You previously had the ExchangeGuard Choice plan, which would still be a recommended plan for F1 and F2 visa holders. If your school's insurance requirements have not changed, you could repurchase. To view all of our F1/F2 plans, please take a look at our F1/F2 International Student Insurance section. If you would like for us to review your school's requirements, you can send those to info at insubuy.com.

Q:I am looking for a annual travel insurance policy for me and my family (husband and baby (1 year old). I would like it to include cover for trip cancellation for trips both within the US and outside the US. We are originally from the UK but not resident in the US on a L visa. I have seen some of the quotes on the website but I cannot tell if they include trip cancellation? I would be grateful for assistance.

A:
Unfortunately, there is not an annual multi-trip plan that you can purchase that will include trip cancellation as a benefit as trip cancellation is purchase per trip according to your total trip cost. Please use the following link to review each type of plan separately. Annual Multi-trip insuranceTrip Cancellation Insurance If you need any additional clarification please contact our office.
