Q:I am looking to buy travel insurance for my parents that are coming over end of this week from Beijing, China for a visit. Can you let me know if the comprehensive plans Atlas America or Safe Travels USA Comprehensive will cover coronavirus? I am seeing online that some travel insurance policies do not cover this and would like clarification before i purchase. Thanks in advance.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Please be advised that there is no yes or no answer to this questions as there are numerous factors at play when determining if a known epidemic could become an eligible expense. The policies on the market are meant to cover any new injury or illness that would manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. This would mean that if they contracted the virus after the effective date of the policy that it could be covered, but it would not be determined until the time of service and that would be based off the attending physician notes and lab results.
