Q:I am an NYU graduate student. I want to waive my campus insurance. I have insurance of Metroplus essential 4 plan. And I heard from Metroplus sales reps that I need to add another insurance to waive my campus insurance. The attaching is nyu insurance brochure. Can we help me with the minimum amounts of additional insurance I need to buy to waive the NYU insurance?

A:
Your school wants unlimited coverage. That benefits you get only if you purchase insurance through school. We have only one plan which provides unlimited coverage but it's not available in state of NY.

Q:I want to buy a school health policy for my nephew, attending University of South Florida (Tampa, FL) he is an International Student, 21, from Mexico, on an F1 visa. He's lived in the USA under this F1 visa for ten years. Here are USF's (University of South Florda Tampa) requirements for health insurance for International Students. I want to buy the cheapest policy which USF finds acceptable. Although their rules state a $50 deductible, their office tells me that they accept policies not exceeding $500 deductible; this should lower the cost.

A:
$500 deductible requirements is for J visa. For F visa $50 deductible is the requirements. You can purchase Study USA Preferred 500 plan. Which meets USF school requirements. He can purchase this plan as long as he is on F visa. If you send his insurance eff. date and expiration date will be glad to send you quote by e-mail. We can sign the school waiver form also.

Q:I'm an incoming international student (MBA Program) at University of Pennsylvania. I am currently looking for an appropriate 1-year health insurance plan for myself , J1 visa holder), and my spouse (J2 visa holder). I am interested in your "Patriot Platinum America" plan and would like to ask 3 questions: 1. If we enroll in this plan, can we have access to University of Pennsylvania's student health center? 2. Does this plan satisfy the minimum requirements set by University of Pennsylvania? Below is the requirements: If you are covered under your won health insurance or that of parents, you may maintain your coverage if it meets the following criteria: - Your insurance plan must be provided by a company licensed to do business in the United States, with a U.S. claims payments office and a U.S. telephone number. The company must have a process to remit payments to provider within the U.S. - Your insurance plan must provide coverage for pre-existing conditions, or have been in effect long enough that any waiting period has passed. - Your insurance plan must offer an annual maximum benefit of at least $2,000,000. - Your insurance plan must provide fir both in-patient and out-patient mental health care in Philadelphia area. A policy that provides only emergency or urgent medical care services in this area does not meet this requirement. -Your insurance plan must provide coverage for both in-patient and out-patient medical care in the Philadelphia area, including routine office visits, specialist office visits, diagnostic testing, imaging and physical therapy. A policy that provides only emergency or urgent medical care in this area does not meet this requirements. 3 Does this plan satisfy the minimum requirements set for J1 and J2 Visa Holders? If the "Patriot Platinum America" plan does not meet any one of the above 3 conditions, can you kindly suggest any plan of yours that meet all the above 3 conditions?

A:
The Patriot Platinum America plan does not meet these requirements listed. Your university requires a plan that cover pre-existing conditions without a waiting period which no plan that we can offer you will do. It is recommended that you purchase insurance from your University.

Q:My son and I are US citizens, but I live and work in Korea. I pay state and federal taxes and I think I might be considered a US resident, but I have been living and working in Korea and I plan to stay in Korea for a while. I am visiting the US for my 3 week vacation. I hear that many insurance companies do not cover US citizens visiting their home country even though they work and live in another country. I was wondering if I can be covered with insubuy with my current situation.

A:
We would be glad to advise. You are correct, there are just a few plans that will cover a U.S. citizen visiting, but we do offer plans that will. You would just enter your information into our Visitors to the U.S. quote screen to get quotes. It will ask your country of citizenship, so when you enter U.S., it will automatically only provide those plans that will work. When filling out any application, if it asks for your home or residence country, you would enter Korea, as that is where you currently reside. If you have any questions, or need any additional assistance, please let us know.

Q:I understand that for acute onset of pre-existing illness, the insured person must seek treatment within 24 hours. I found detailed explanations in insubuy website for acute onset or pre-existing illness and sudden recurrence of previous illness. But I could not find much about coverage for acute illness. How soon a insured person seek medical treatment for acute illness? For example the insured person falls, and after 2-3 days he/she develops pain in hand. Goes to a physician and it is found that he/she has a fracture and gets plastered or surgery. Will this claim be covered? Another example- a person is having fever for 3 -4 days, now develops cough and condition gets worse on 5th day and goes to see a physician in office. Will this visit be covered? Does a person have to seek treatment within 24 hours for all acute condition for insurance coverage? My concern is sometimes ( and in many cases often), symptoms gradually gets worse and he/she seek treatment when condition gets concerning.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. The acute onset coverage is going to have the stipulation to have treatment within 24 hours. This benefit is specifically tailored to the pre-existing conditions. The plans will cover the new accident and new illnesses that happen after the effective date of the policy and will not have that stipulation. As long as the new accident or illness happens after the effective date of the policy the plan will cove whatever is medically necessary in accordance with the certificate wording for the policy. If you need any additional clarification please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I have a travel insurance with CSA. We had to cancel our trip. CSA will reimburse us for the difference Quantas pays and what the ticket had cost. They will not reimburse us for the cancellation fee the travel agent charges. Is there anything I can do?

A:
I don't see that you have a current policy through Insubuy. If you are looking for a new plan to cover this issue there is no plan that can cover a cancelled trip. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.
