Q:I am a student in Chicago and I am planning a trip to Italy. My passport is Indian, so I need to apply for a Schengen visa at the Italian consulate here in Chicago. One of the requirements for the visa is travel insurance. I wanted to purchase a plan that covers the minimum requirements needed for this. I wasn't sure if the plan I saw (Patriot International) covers everything required. Here is the information listed on the Italian consulate's website: "Verification of Medical Coverage Abroad for the entire period of travel in the Schengen area with a minimum coverage of $50,000 for hospitalization, emergencies, evacuation and repatriation. Make sure that these 4 benefits are itemized on the policy issued by your current US Health Insurance company (insurance card alone is not sufficient), or by a US Travel Insurance company. If your US insurance provider cannot issue a letter specifying the above, we suggest you contact a travel insurance company which will be able to do so." ---- Please confirm that this package covers the 4 items that need to be covered.

A:
Yes, the Patriot International does meet the Schengen visa requirements. You can review the different sample visa letters in the details section before purchase. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I'm looking for health insurance for me and my husband. I just started the OPT, I already have insurance that will expire next week. I have the F1 visa and he has the F2. They said that to qualify, the medical insurance plan must be a medical/health insurance plan purchased in the U.S. with a U.S.-owned insurance company that is headquartered and operating in the U.S.. It must not be foreign insurance with U.S. affiliates/representatives, travel insurance, or reimbursement programs of any kind (these are not acceptable). This includes reimbursement arrangements of vouchers from home governments or their U.S. based consulates. Can you confirm if Insubuy meets the requirements? I also need to submit a list of the health insurance company's preferred provider network of local hospitals. Is it possible that you can send me that? I want to send them this information in advance so UCLA Extension confirms if everything is ok before I purchase the new insurance. I also want to know if I can renew the plan after a while, for example, if I buy the insurance for 3 months, can I renew it if the company I'm working for doesn't offer health insurance as one of the benefits?

A:
Who has given you these requirements? If you have graduated then the university shouldn't have any requirements that need to be met since you are no longer eligible for the plan they offer. The plans we offer are administered within the US but based on what it says below that is not enough. For example, many of the plans we offer are through Lloyd's of London and obviously they are not in the US but then, the plan is administered by a company in the US called Tokio Marine HCC. You would need to contact the university to confirm that these are requirements that need to be met now that you have graduated and if so then can you continue with your current plan to be able to meet them.

Q: I'm contacting you about flight insurance for our upcoming vacation. We do not need insurance for medical coverage or hotels, only flight insurance. Just in case we miss our connecting flights and the airline will not reschedule our flight free of charge. We booked our flights through a company that does not offer flight insurance.

A:
Trip insurance is to cover the cost of the complete trip. For example, if there is a serious illness and you are no longer able to travel then the plan would cover the non-refundable cost of the trip. Within these plans there are benefits for missed connection but for specific reasons. You would also have to purchase separate plans since the travel dates are different. Plans are also according to residence so if they not a US resident then they would need a plan for non-US residents.

Q:I am student from IUPUI, Indianapolis. I am looking for health insurance. My Visa status is F1. My University requires the condition to be fulfilled by insurance are as follows:- Please send me the quotation of health insurance plan fulfilling these conditions. Minimum $100,000 each sickness Minimum $100,000 each accident or injury Minimum $50,000 for medical evacuation (in case you must return to your home country for medical care) Minimum $25,000 for repatriation (in case of death, this covers the cost of returning the body to the home country) My policy deductible is $500 or less My insurance covers all pre-existing conditions with no waiting period or other conditions. My out-of-pocket max is $2,000 or less. Looking forward for your response

A:
The requirements below state that the plan "covers all pre-existing conditions with no waiting period or other conditions". Unfortunately, available plans have at least a 6 month waiting period so you would need to purchase the plan the university is providing to be able to meet their requirements.
