Q:I am looking to buy the Diplomat America Insurance plan for an upcoming trip to America. I would like to have me, my wife, and our 1-year-old daughter all on the same plan. My daughter and I are American citizens, but my wife is a Chinese citizen. Will this be a problem, or can I simply add her to the plan as a spouse?

A:
As long as your home country is China for all of you, everyone can be in the same application. Diplomat America

In that case you can purchase Student Secure Select plan which has more benefits than smart plan.

Q:I need to go to the Dermatologist for my skin treatment and I don't have school insurance.

A:
The plans available are primarily designed to provide coverage for a new illness, injury or accident which occurs after the effective date of the policy. Some plans will have a waiting period of either 6 or 12 months before the plan will provide coverage for a pre-existing condition. We can recommend a plan for you to purchase in the future, but it will not cover the current dermatology treatment.

Q:My husband is covered by his school insurance only from mid-June and I'm looking to buy a plan to cover him (F1 visa) from end-April till mid-June, and the rest of the family (F2 visa) from end-April this year to mid-June next year. If I buy the ExchangeGuard Essential plan for all of us from end-April to mid-June this year, can the rest of us on F2 visa extend the insurance to cover us till end-June next year? Or can we buy a new ExchangeGuard Essential plan just for the F2 visa holders, starting the day after our first plan ends?

A:
You can do either of the options you listed below. You can extend for only the rest of you and not your husband if he will have coverage through his university, or just purchase a new policy for the rest of you. Keep in mind that if you have a policy in place and then start a new one however, any deductibles and co-insurance would start over and if anything happens during the first policy for example an injury or diagnosis of something, it would be considered pre-existing on the new policy if further treatment was necessary. If you have any additional questions, please let us know and we would be glad to assist.
