Q:Hello, I have a dual citizenship (one is American) and I've been living abroad in England since March 2017 (I've been living in New Jersey before that) and I'm visiting United States July 14-August 19 this year. I've seen an article on your website recommending the Diplomat America insurance (where it said that US citizens are eligible to apply), however on the paper application it clearly states "Coverage is not available for citizens of the United States or Australia etc etc", which is confusing because it was recommended for US citizens travelling back to the United States for a short visit. Can you please clarify this for me, as I would like to purchase insurance that will cover my trip, and I wouldn't want any surprises once I buy a plan. Thank you,

A:
You are eligible to purchase this Diplomat America plan for coverage during your trip to the United States even as a citizen. The eligibility for this plan is based upon your home country and your intention to return to your home country. You are able to do this application online as it will take longer for a paper application to be completed. If you need any additional information please contact our office.

Q:I am an incoming exchange student to the University of California San Diego, coming from Italy (21 years old). I am coming with a non-immigrant J-1 Visa. My problem is that I will have roughly two weeks (approx. 10-24 September) uncovered by any health insurance because my travel insurance will expire on the 10th of September and the University Health Insurance will start its coverage from the 25th of September. Therefore I am looking for a short term insurance for these two weeks. I have seen on your site that there is a section for exchange visitors, so I just want to make sure that that is the correct section for me and that I am eligible for such kind of health insurance. Furthermore, I would like to know if there is something else I should be aware of.

A:
We have many insurance plan that you will be eligible to purchase on the J1 Visa Health Insurance section on our website. Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Q:My wife is a U.S. citizen and she is traveling to Italy + Zurich, Switzerland + Dubai (UAE) on a vacation trip from September 4, 2017 to September 20, 2017. She shall be back in USA on September 20,2017. We are seeking pre-existing conditions medical insurance coverage for her for her trip. Please advise medical coverage available with cost and details. We shall appreciate a prompt response. Thank you.

A:
Before we suggest any plan would like to know her age. In general, Short term provides coverage for new sickness, injuries or accidents that may occur after the eff. date of the policy. Insurance will not pay for any pre-existing or preventive care. However, some plan provides coverage for an Acute Onset of pre-existing Conditions. Please visit our Travel Health Insurance section in our website. Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans, you can narrow by pre-ex (Acute onset) coverage plan also. Once we get her age, residence state and travel duration will be glad to send you quote by e-mail also.

Q:I am here as a visiting scholar with J-1 visa at NC State University. I need a health insurance for me and two children which are my dependents with J-2 visa. The benefits that NC State University requires are: Minimum coverage must provide: - Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness; - Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 - Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of exchange visitors to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000 - Deductibles not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. In addition, insurance policies - May require a waiting period for pre-existing conditions that is reasonable as determined by current industry standards; - May include provisions for co-insurance under the terms of which the exchange visitor may be required to pay up to 25% of the covered benefits per accident or illness; and - Must not unreasonable exclude coverage for perils inherent to the activities of the exchange program in which the exchange visitor participates. Could you inform me about the options that you offer? The packages with their price for me and for two children for 3 months?
