If you choose MD then you would have to contact the MD state department of insurance to see if they have any plans available in MD since the plans we offer are not available in MD. If you choose Washington DC then the plan we would recommend is Patriot America Plus. This plan is available until you are eligible for a long term domestic plan. Unfortunately, there is no insurance for an international visitor which covers pregnancy if your wife is already pregnant. You have to pay from your pocket for any cost incurred that are related to her pregnancy.

You are free to go to any provider that you choose, the difference will be in how much the plan would cover.
