Q:I am trying to figure out whether my parents can buy travel insurance to cover their stay in the US. They both have US green card, but they are Chinese citizen. They will travel to the US for few months every year and stay with us. I am trying to figure out whether they can buy travel insurance to cover their stay, or they will have to buy Obama care.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. The available plans for green card holders visiting the United States for a short period will cover any new accident or new illness that occurs after the effective date of the policy. Plans will not cover the pre-existing conditions, routine or preventative care, medications related to pre-existing conditions, or immunizations. These plans are not ACA compliant and will not stop any penalties assessed by the U.S. government should they be required to purchase a ACA compliant plan. Please use the link listed below for more information about the available plans for your parents and to generate a quote for coverage. If you would like assistance in selecting a plan for your parents please contact our office. Q:I am in the state of South Carolina studying under the F1 category. I am 41 years and will the needing the coverage on a year to year basis, I am going to be here a minimum of 4 years including my OPT. Please can you explain to me the pre-existing or preventive care - that the insurance will not pay for. I don't understand it. What is the major difference between the patriot exchange plan and the atlas exchange plans? Can I be paying my premium on a monthly basis with my credit or debit cards and would I be getting my receipts generated as soon as possible?

A:
Pre-existing means if you have some sickness or injuries before the effective date of the policy will not be covered or if you have manifest some issue within last 3 yrs will be excluded. Preventive care means if you are fine and you want to go for physical checkup whether you are doing OK or not is not covered. In short, insurance will pay for whatever treatment medically necessary as long as it's not pre-existing or preventive care. You can find more information in the policy certificate wording for each plan. Link for the major difference between Atlas Exchange and Patriot Exchange If you want to purchase insurance monthly, I would suggest to purchase Atlas Exchange plan. We don't send any invoice. You can extend the insurance online and there will be $5 extension fees whenever you extend the policy. You can call our office at (866) INSUBUY and will be glad to explain this over the phone.

Q:I am wanting to get an insurance quote! I am planning on going to Nicaragua at the beginning of the year and staying there indefinitely. I am looking for something that covers all travel internationally, rather than specifically for Nicaragua, in case I go somewhere else, too. I plan on getting a teaching certificate, and I am sure how long I will be in Nicaragua! I am a 27 year old American, and I haven't been out of the country since June 2016.

A:
There are several plans that will cover you anywhere outside of your home country of the United States. Please look at our Travel Health Insurance section to view the plans. These plans are designed to cover any new accidents or illness that happen after the effective date of the policy. These plans will not cover routine or preventative care, pre-existing conditions, or maternity. You can also take a look at Expatriate Worldwide Medical Insurance plans that will cover you at a more comprehensive level as these are major medical plans, but these plan will be considerably more expensive and will require medical underwriting and for the covered individuals to remain outside of the United States for at least 6 months out of the year. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any additional questions about either options.
