Q:I am an Italian pregnant woman. I have lived one year in Houston studying there. Now I frequently travel from Italy to Houston for my job and also to visit my Houstonian family. I should be in Houston one week on June and the delivery is scheduled from the end of July. I would like to have some information in case I have a premature birth and I would like to know which kind of insurance I can do for the delivery. Thank you

A:
If you are coming to the U.S. on a B1/B2 visitor visa, while there are medical plans available to visitors, there are no plans on the market that will cover pregnancy. We do have an Atlas America plan that can cover complications of pregnancy up to 26 weeks, you will be past that point of your pregnancy at your time of your travel. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:We planned to bring our mother to New Jersey in mid- July, 2019. Unfortunately she was diagnosed ovarian cancer two weeks back. Now, instead of taking her in July, we are planning to take her to the USA for check up immediately, but could not make decision due to the huge cost of treatment. Could you please suggest any solution, any insurance policy , so that treatment cost could be reduced. Thanks in advance

A:
We would be glad to assist, however, there is not a plan on the market for visitors, that will cover pre-existing conditions. Any treatment you seek in the U.S. would have to paid for out of pocket. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:I am a visiting scholar with J1 VISA, and my son holds J2 VISA. I have bought the insurance plan for myself from other company recommended by my visiting university. Could I buy ExchangeGuard Essential plan or other insurance plans in your company separately for my son.

A:
Yes, your son is eligible for the ExchangeGuard plans. Just keep in mind that short term plans will not cover well child exams or immunizations in case your child needs them. Plans will cover a new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date.

Q:I will be joining graduate school (F1 visa) from Aug 2019 for more than 2 years. My university is providing health, dental and vision coverage for myself but I need to buy insurance for my wife (31 years) and child (3.5 years). I saw the online plans but could not understand the significant differences. Please, can you explain which parameters are most important while making a decision? My preference is that I should not end up paying for last minute surprises in case of an emergency.

A:
The plans will cover any new illness or injury that occurs after the effective date. Since you have a young child you should be aware that the plans do not cover well child exams or immunizations. For your wife there is no coverage for well woman exam or maternity.
