Q:Hi I am coming to the US on a K1 visa and will apply for an AOS soon after entry into the US. I am not able to be added to my husband's insurance. While we are not planning to conceive for the first 2 years I am worried about what would happen IF I got pregnant. Am also worried about how much it would cost to go to the doctor if I got a cold or something. How are doctors visits covered?

A:
There is not an insurance that will cover the cost of delivery or maternity related expenses that could be offered outside of a domestic plan. It would be best to wait until you can enroll into a plan that would cover the cost of doctors visits, delivery and any related costs. Otherwise, you would just have to pay for these costs out of pocket as there is not a short term plan that would cover these expenses. In order to determine what these costs would be, you would have to research the doctors in your area and call around inquire as a self paying patient as these prices will differ from state to state.
