Q:Having questions regarding the pre-existing condition. On the website, it mentioned a 6 month waiting period. However, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Serves, the insurance company cannot refuse to cover treatment for clients' pre-existing condition. Also, I don't understand what the $500 pre certificate period means.

A:
Those regulations set by the PPACA are not applicable to short term or international plan as they are exempt from the 10 essential health benefits required by the PPACA. Hence the reason they are not considered to be PPACA compliant plans. So that statement given to you by Health and Human Services would not be applicable in this case as it relates to these plans. The plan is stating that you would have to wait 6 months before the plan will cover anything related to a pre-existing condition so the first 6 months any related expenses would be denied. After the 6 month waiting period the plan would cover up to $500 for pre-existing conditions per certificate period. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:Hi, I just had a question about "Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Conditions" Would Ulcerative Colitis, that is currently under control with medicine and a healthy lifestyle/diet, be covered if the traveler needed to visit a doctor if symptoms occurred? I'm looking to help a friend purchase insurance, but they have concerns over their medical conditions and the expense they would occur if this disease affected them in the US. Any information on helping me to understand "Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Conditions" would be helpful. Thanks so much!
