Q:Hello there, I'm looking for a policy for my sister who are coming to US to study. She is 14 YO. The main thing we want is to make sure she has coverage for some vaccines (e.g. covid, varicella, MMR, etc.). Could you help share some quotes and options?

A:
If your sister will be in the U.S. on an F1 visa, you can use our F1 plan quote link to find plans that would be available to her based on her specific information, for example her country of citizenship and what state she will be in, or is in currently if she has already arrived. /international-student-insurance/ Few plans will provide vaccination coverage. We do have one plan, The Student Secure and at the Elite plan option can provide a $150 benefit, that can be used towards certain vaccines. I have listed that plan link below. This may be a good option if it comes up in the available plan list once you run a quote through the above link. /student-secure-elite-insurance/ Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q:My wife arrived July 27 after receiving a Green Card. I want to enroll her in my insurance program but am being told we will have to wait for the next open enrollment period and that her status as a married recent green card holder does not constitute a QLE. In my opinion and for all practical purposes our situation is the same as getting married.

A:
If your wife is unable to obtain a domestic insurance plan, either through your employer or through the marketplace, she may be eligible to purchase the National General Short Term Medical Plan. She would be able to continue coverage under the plan until she can purchase a domestic insurance. Should you have additional questions you may call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.

Q:I will be traveling to Madeira in late August, 2021. I will return to the USA via a flight from Lisbon, Portugal. I must have a negative covid test to begin the trip and another negative test before I am permitted to board the flight to return to the USA. I am fully vaccinated for covid. I am looking for a travel insurance plan that will cover my hotel and food expenses if I test positive prior to leaving Portugal and thus must quarantine in a hotel in Portugal.

Q:I see that quarantine is covered under trip delay coverage. I wonder if the coverage extends past the specified end travel date? If the quarantine causes you to miss the return flight home will coverage pay for the accommodations after the return date on the policy?

A:
Quarantine is a named peril under the Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Trip Delay benefits in the Safe Travels Voyager and Safe Travels Explorer plans. Quarantine is defined as "Your strict isolation imposed by a Government authority or Physician to prevent the spread of disease. An embargo preventing You from entering a country is not a Quarantine." If you become sick while on your trip (COVID-19 is treated as any other illness), your policy may provide benefits under Trip Interruption, Sickness Medical, Emergency Medical Evacuation or Trip Delay Trip Delay provides benefits if someone is delayed due to being quarantined, and will provide coverage for reasonable additional expenses such as lodging, up to the maximum benefit amount. Should you have additional questions or need further assistance you may also call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.
