Q:J1 and family visa insurance and questions Dear recipient, My husband is coming to USA as a J1 research scholar and we need a health insurance for our family that meets the J1 compliance form requirements. Those requirements are: -Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness -Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 -Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to home country in the amount of $50,000 -A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness -Includes coverage for perils inherent to the activities of the program in which the insured participates. In our case, the program is Research in information systems (office work with a computer). The insurance corporation must have an A.M. Best rating of A- or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd (ISI) rating of A- or above, a Standard Poor’s Claims-paying Ability rating of A- or above, a Weiss Research Inc. rating of B+ or above. Our program dates are 4/21/2016-8/15/2017. I understood that you offer the policy for one year at a time and it is easily renewable. I also understood, that for example Atlas America offers plans that are refundable. Our family has five members, me (born 1977, J2 spouse), my husband (born 1966 J1 applicant), and three children (born 2004, 2007, 2015, J2 children). Any of us does not have permanent illnesses/medical problems. Is it possible to customize deductibles if we take a family plan? My husband for example is fully covered by an insurance taken from our home country (Finland), but the insurance company did not want to fill the compliance form. So he needs the insurance mainly because of the compliance form paperwork requirement. For him the deductible could be $500. Other family members would prefer lower deductible ($100). We would like to get an offer for the insurance for one year. We would like to pay it full (no monthly payments). If you need US credit score ratings, those are also available and are very good (I do not know if it lowers the payment). I will also attach the J1 Scholar Alternate Health Insurance Compliance form as an attachment. The University needs this paper filled by the insurance company. Would it be okay to get this filled if we select an insurance from you?

Q:J1 visitor insurance needed I am a J1 visitor currently doing research at UIC in Chicago. I searched through your website and was wondering if I can purchase other plans like Safe Travels USA Cost Saver for visitors to USA, or I must choose from those 4 plans specified for J1/J2 visas?

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Plans from the visitors to USA section of the website will not meet the requirements for a J visa holder. Please shop within the specified J1/J2 Exchange Visitors section as the plans will meet the standard J1 visa requirements set by the Department of state. If your University has additional requirements please review plan benefits to ensure that all requirements are met. If you would like assistance from a licensed agent please feel free to send your Universities requirements and we will recommend a plan accordingly. Thank you for your quick response. These are my university requirements: 1) Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness; 2) Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000; 3) Expenses associated with medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his/her home country in the amount of $50,000; 4) A deductible that does not exceed $500 per accident or illness. I take a look at “safe travels USA cost saver” plan and it seems it covers all the requirements: Deductible : 250$ Policy max: 100,000$ Emergency Evacuation: 2,000,000$ Emergency Reunion:15,000$ Repatriation of remains: 1M $ As you might guess, I am looking for the best option with lowest monthly cost (preferring comprehensive plans) and this plans seems a good deal for me. Please let me know if I can apply for this plan and if the answer is No, help me with the best options I have. I might consider good dental coverage as well. The safe travels plan is not a J visa insurance plan so you are not eligible to purchase this options. You will need to shop only within the J1/J2 Exchange Visitor’s Insurance plans. Please see the links to the plan listed below that will meet your Universities requirements. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact our office.
