Q:Hello,I and my wife are immigrant visa holders who will be entering the US. We both have preexisting conditions and would likely be eligible for ACA coverage after we enter. But, we are looking for some coverage until we get the ACA coverage started. Could you pls let us know what policy would work well? We do not mind high deductible if it comes with high coverage. Thanks

A:
As immigrants coming to the US, you would be eligible to purchase Patriot America Plus or Visitors Protect before entering in the US. Patriot America Plus plus will offer coverage for the Acute onset of Pre-existing Conditions. Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions but it still cannot be known or expected treatment. It has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. With both of these plans you will no longer be eligible for coverage once you are able to have a domestic insurance policy. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I am a dual citizen in the EU and the US. I currently live in the US and have health insurance through work. Later this year, I will be moving to the EU for school. While at school, I will be insured by the EHIC. Am I required to get additional US based health insurance to be ACA compliant? Will travel insurance suffice for visits back to the US?

A:
We are unable to advise if you need an ACA plan while traveling, to remain ACA compliant. The ACA requirements and rules can vary by state, so I would recommend reaching out to your states' healthcare exchange to get more information on this. For visits back to the US, you may be eligible to purchase Patriot America Plus, as long as you are visiting. This is one of the only plans that will are available to US citizens visiting the US. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:My dad is a heart patient in India. He has had two heart attacks in his life but is stable now for a while. He is visiting the us and I would like to get some guidance on what insurance plan I can purchase for his five week visit. Should I focus on a plan that covers acute onset of preexisting conditions or preexisting conditions or is there an option to get both?

A:
Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions, but it still cannot be known or expected treatment. It also has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. Additionally, it must be purchased before the insured has left their home country. Like you said, other plans do offer the Acute onset of pre-existing conditions. If you would like to learn more about the acute onset of pre-existing conditions please click the hyperlink. There is no option or reason to get both, as the "acute onset" would already be covered under general pre-existing condition coverage. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

As a US citizen visiting the US, they are restricted on the number of plans available to them, however, you may still be eligible to purchase Patriot America Plus. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
