Q:Hello, I would like to ask if I can purchase health insurance that covers the requirements of the J-1 visa before obtaining such visa. I am planning to go to the United States as an exchange visitor starting from April 2024, and I am waiting for the hosting university to provide me with the DS-2019 document, which is a prerequisite for the J-1 visa application.

A:
Yes, you can purchase J1/J2 insurance before actually being approved for a visa, however you must have a valid J1/J2 visa by the time the policy begins. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q:We have two river cruise vouchers to use for our next trip. (We had to cancel due to a medical emergency...and the cruise company provided us the vouchers.) Technically the vouchers have no trip value...but they total 11K. Husband and I both have medical issues and want to purchase health insurancetravel insurance that includes coverage for preexisting conditions. Want a reputable travel insurance company. Need to know any special things to know on purchasing trip insurance using vouchers.

A:
Yes, there are some plans that will allow you to insure cruise vouchers. While some trip insurance plans will provide waivers for pre-existing conditions, there is a time frame in which the plan needs to be purchased in order to be eligible for those waivers. Unfortunately, based on the information you provided, you would not be eligible for those waivers. You would be welcome to insure your new trip, but cancellations due to a pre-existing condition would not receive coverage. If you have any additional questions please call our office at 1(866) 467-8289.

Q:Pre existing conditions and Urgent care insurance for Old age couple with age group of 84 YEARS and 79 YEARs

A:
Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions, but it still cannot be known, expected, or routine treatment. It has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. It must be purchased before the insured has left their home country, and the sub-limited maximum amount of coverage that is available for pre-existing conditions is $25,000 ($50k, $100k, or $250k policy max available for expenses related to new injuries or illnesses). Other plans, like Atlas America or Patriot America Plus, do offer the Acute onset of pre-existing conditions. If you would like to learn more about the acute onset of pre-existing conditions please click the hyperlink. You can run a quote in the Visitors to U.S.A. section of the website to see what plans are available. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:My mother is planning to visit to the US. - I want to do a full blood checkup for her. What type of insurance I should buy?- She has arthiritis, I want to get a second opinion from a doctor here. What insurance I should buy?

A:
Plans are designed to cover for new injuries or illnesses that did not exist in the body before the effective date of the policy. Unfortunately, there are not going to be any plans on the market for visitors that offer coverage for preventative care or routine maintenance of any kind. There is one plan called Visitors Protect that can cover pre-existing conditions however it must still be an unexpected occurrence, so seeking a second opinion would not receive coverage. Please see the article on Routine Care, Check Ups and Pre-Existing Conditions Coverage in Visitors Insurance for proper expectations of what visitors insurance can cover. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
