Q:I have few question regarding the Atlas Exchange rate insurance. Is it eligible for UCLA extension school (F1 visa, see attachment below ) Does this program cover recreational surfing and skateboarding? Would I have to pay if I need to go to a doctor? (if it is not the emergency room) is there any payment for the emergency room? I am doing surf and skate for fun, on a daily basis. so, I need insurance that will cover me in case I get injured from those kinds of sports.

A:
Please look at Atlas Exchange Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Yes, both of those activities in a recreational form would be covered under the Atlas Exchange plan. Keep in mind that only the traditional form of surfing is covered, and not the kite or wind variations.

Q:I will be going to the US on a J1 visa with spouse and 2 dependents. I checked quotations for the Atlas Exchange and Patriot Exchange policies. These seem very similar but the premiums are 1000USD different per year. Please could you explain the difference in price? The Atlas policy doesn't seem to charge for children but is there a difference in coverage? Many thanks.

A:
The reason there is a difference in premium is because the Atlas Exchange plan is considered to be a family friendly plan. The Atlas series plans will cover children under age 9 for no additional cost for each covered adult and coverage will be the same as the covered adults limits on the plan. The Patriot Exchange Program will require premium for each covered individual. If you need any additional clarification please contact our office.

Q:I am an international student who will attend Brown University in Rhode Island next fall. That is why I need an insurance plan that has to cover the Brown Requirements. I am attaching the file that Brown has sent me. In that file you can find the requirements. If 'Student Health Advantage Standard' program fulfills every requirement, I am going to purchase it. However, I wasn't able to compare 'Student Health Advantage Standard' to Brown Student Health Insurance. Could you help me on that and perhaps compare the two for me? I really need help because I didn't quite understand Student Health Advantage Standard's coverage. I really want to purchase this insurance if it is applicable for me. I am forwarding the message that Brown University has sent me about comparable coverage. 'The level of benefits provided through your health insurance plan must be fully-compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and meet or exceed the benefits provided through the school-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Coverage is considered comparable if it provides students with access to local providers and a range of services in and around the area where you attend school. Services include, but are not limited to, preventive and non-urgent care, emergency care, surgical care, inpatient and outpatient hospitalization, lab work, diagnostic x-rays, physical therapy and chiropractic care, prescription drugs, mental health and substance abuse treatment. If your current plan is an HMO, it is very likely that coverage is limited, or not available, outside of the HMO's service area. Before deciding whether or not to waive coverage, compare your current health insurance plan to the SHIP to look at cost-sharing levels (deductibles and coinsurance) and access to In-Network Providers. The amount of your current plan's deductible and InNetwork and Out-of-Network coinsurance may result in high out-of-pocket costs. Plans that are not considered comparable include: plans that only provide emergency services in the campus area, plans that are purchased on a short term basis, plans that are international or travel insurance, or out-of-state Medicaid plans.'

A:
Thank you for providing the requirements. Unfortunately, there are no plans available since your University requires that the "health insurance plan must be fully-compliant with the Affordable Care ACT (ACA)". We would recommend purchasing from your University directly. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:I am going to visit University of California Los Angeles from 4th June to 1st September. I have J1 visa, and my wife and two children J2 visas. My wife and I are 29 years old. My sons are 4 and 1 years old. I need the cheapest plan that covers the duration of my visit and satisfies the requirements below (https://clients.garnett-powers.com/vs/ucla/): $100,000 per accident & illness in medical coverage A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness Coinsurance that does not exceed 25% Medical evacuation coverage must be at least $50,000 Repatriation coverage must be at least $25,000 Pre-existing conditions must be covered by the insurance policy with a waiting period no longer than 12 months. Pre-existing conditions must also have a $100,000 per illness medical coverage. Please note: Policy with coverage for only Acute onset of pre-existing conditions do not meet this requirement. Carrier must be at least A- rated or backed by the full faith and credit of the Exchange Visitor's government.

A:
Unfortunately, there is not a plan that we can offer you to meet your sponsoring organizations requirements for coverage. It is recommended that you purchase coverage from your University. If you need any clarification please contact our office.
