Q:I am interested in buying traveler insurance for my parents who are Indian citizens and visiting me in Maryland. Does the not applicable rule apply in MD to them considering they are not MD residents.

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. In the state of Maryland there are many restrictions when it comes to insurance within the state. If a plan states that it is not available in the state of Maryland that would apply to visitors as well. In the state of Maryland there are two plans that would be available for coverage There is a plan called Atlas America that is available as long as it is purchased prior to their arrival. There is a second plan available called Safe Travels USA Comprehensive. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I am looking for an insurance for my mother who wants to visit me. I want to know that do you cover for any pre existing conditions. She is a cancer patient and if she needed any medical assistance during her visit. Will she get coverage.

A:
Thank you for contacting Inusbuy for your insurance needs. Please provide the visa type that she will be arriving in the United States on so that we can recommend a plan that would work well for her visit. As well as the state she will be visiting and her age. Insurance will pay for new sickness, injuries or accidents that may occur after the effective date of the policy. It does not cover any pre-existing conditions or preventive care. The plan will however cover cost medically necessary related to a new accident or new illness that occurs after the effective date of the policy.

Q:Green card holder insurance questions Hi, my mom just recently immigrated to the US on the green card status. I am looking at getting her a short term health insurance, good for 2 -3 months until we figure out where her permanent address will be. She is currently in New Mexico. Please advise of options on health insurance.

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Before we can recommend plans we would need additional information. When did your mother arrive in the US, what is her age, and what are the dates of coverage? We also have plans in our new immigrant section of our website that can be purchased until she is eligible for a domestic plan. You can find our new immigrant plans here /new-immigrant-insurance/ after you enter in the required information and click search & compare. You can also call our office and speak with a licensed agent regarding your options.

Q:Fiance visa Insurance My fiancé is submitting an application to get me a k1 fiancé visa. And I have been looking on your site for medical insurance to cover me for the first 90 days. Can the insurance be purchased before hand. I'm not sure when my visa will come through. But I was thinking about buying insurance that would start as soon as I leave the U.K. Unfortunately I don't as yet have a date. But I'm looking at making sure all is in place rather than doing it last minute Awaiting your earliest reply

A:

You are able to purchase up until the date before you would like for the policy to start to have a policy valid for coverage. The policy will start on your requested date of coverage and can cover yourself during your travel, you would just need to make sure that your policy is in effect in accordance with U.S. eastern standard time. Please use the link below to review the available plan for incoming k1 visa holders. If you have any questions please feel free to contact our office. Q:Green card holder insurance questions I am a green card holder, and have a job here in America, but I need to purchase insurance. What options do I have? I am a resident of Idaho, but will be in Alaska for 5 months this year.

A:
As a green card holder, you are eligible for domestic insurance. You would need to look into plans available through the Health Exchange (Healthcare.gov). However, Open enrollment has passed and unless you qualify for a special election period, you would not be able to obtain coverage until next year or coverage beginning Jan. 1 ,2017. If you are not able to obtain coverage through the Healthcare Exchange, you could purchase a Short term domestic plan. I am attaching a link with the plans available in Idaho. Please be advised however, that these short term domestic plans do not cover pre-existing conditions or preventative care, therefore they are not ACA compliant. If you do not carry compliant insurance, you will have to pay a penalty assessed when filing your 2016 taxes. /short-term-health-insurance/ Please let us know if you have any additional questions. So you are telling me that open enrollment has past, so I am unable to get insurance through the Health Exchange, and the short term domestic plans are not compliant, therefore I will be charged when doing taxes next year. How does that make sense? That basically gives me no options? Please explain further and tell me what viable options I have to not be charged for taxes. You will first want to go through the healthcare.gov website to see if you qualify for the special enrollment. Usually, when you are employed the employer offers insurance. If they do not, then you are expected to purchase insurance and yes, if you do not there could be tax penalties. We are not tax professionals so do not know the details of when this penalty is imposed or if there are exceptions to this. We just want to offer you the options available to you.
