Q:J1 and J2 health insurance Myself, (33 year age) will come to USA in June 2016 with my wife (30 year) and child (2 years) as visiting scholar for 1 year. My visa type is J1 and my family members are of J2 type. I will come to Ohio State University for 1 year visiting scholar program. Now, as per rule of U S Department of State (DOS), certain level of health insurance coverage for all J-1 scholars and J-2 dependents are required. That means that all J-1 scholars and J-2 dependents hosted at The Ohio State University are required by law to have health insurance that meets DOS requirements. By going through the your website I have seen some insurance for me (J 1) and my wife and child (J 2 visa type) like ATLAS AMERICA ($ 1858/year), PATRIOT EXCHANGE PROGRAM (($ 2441/year) etc. My query is that this insurances are meeting the DOS requirement or not for J1 and J2 dependent visas? J1/J2 visa insurance requirements • Each J visa holder must purchase insurance that meets the following minimum requirements: • Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness • Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 • Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000 • A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness. Please also tell me these insurance companies will sign the compliance form or not?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Yes, both plans you have mentioned meet the J1/J2 requirements set by the DOS and will sign the compliance form. If you need additional assistance please feel free to contact our office.

Q:J1/ J2 health insurance query My husband has a secondment in the San Jose area for 3 months. I would like to join him with our 9 month old son from mid may to end of July. I will enter on a J2 visa. Can you please let me know what level of cover I need. I would prefer to not get hot with any costs or very minimal costs if we have to have medical treatment while in the US. Also, does it cover dental?

A:
You can visit the J1/J2 visa insurance section, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. The medical plans do not include dental benefits. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. Thanks. I actually did that before I emailed you. The problem is, as I am not from the US, I am not sure how much cover I need fir each type of scenario (eg.) if I go to the emergency department., how much does it usually cost... Same for surgery etc.... Is $100,000 enough or do I need $1,000,000.... Do you have information about that somewhere on your website or do you have a link I can look at that would help me make the right decision? It is impossible to make a decision without that information. Thanks in advance for your help For a J1/J2 the requirement is $100,000 per illness/injury. It is up to you if you want to purchase more. Healthcare cost in the US are very expensive so the policy max would have to be your choice. If you need additional information please feel free to contact our office. I have just tried to purchase insurance through your website and I got through it and it told me that because I am in Australia I can't do it :( Can you please help. I am travelling on a J2 visa from 8th May to 27th July 2016. I would like the Atlas Premium America, $1,000,000 for me (27/04/74) and my son (18/06/15) with $0 deductible. You can’t purchase Atlas America plan if you are physically located in Australia at the time of application. You have two options. 1. You can purchase Atlas America once you arrived in USA. 2. You can purchase Patriot Exchange plan which is very similar to Atlas America and it meets standard J1 visa requirements. Atlas America brochure, instant purchase link, /atlasamerica-insurance/ Patriot Exchange plan brochure, instant purchase link, /patriot-exchange-program-insurance/ You can compare these plans at, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.

Q:J1 insurance policy question I will be in the US on a J-1 Short Term Scholar visa at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, for 4-5 months this year. Would you be able to provide me with details on the most basic policy that you offer, which meets the J-1 requirements of the US Department of State and Thomas Jefferson University Thank you for your kind attention. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:
I am attaching the link for you to access our J1 plans. They all meet the requirements of the J1 visa, however, your school requires a per policy maximum of at least 250,000. Therefore, whatever plan you decide on, you would need to choose an option of at least 250,000 for the policy maximum and the deductible you choose cannot be more than 500.00. /j1-visa-health-insurance/ If you have any questions or need any assistance in purchasing a plan, you can contact our office at 1-866 INSUBUY and we would be glad to help.

Q:J1 and family visa insurance and questions Dear recipient, My husband is coming to USA as a J1 research scholar and we need a health insurance for our family that meets the J1 compliance form requirements. Those requirements are: -Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness -Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000 -Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to home country in the amount of $50,000 -A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness -Includes coverage for perils inherent to the activities of the program in which the insured participates. In our case, the program is Research in information systems (office work with a computer). The insurance corporation must have an A.M. Best rating of A- or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd (ISI) rating of A- or above, a Standard Poor’s Claims-paying Ability rating of A- or above, a Weiss Research Inc. rating of B+ or above. Our program dates are 4/21/2016-8/15/2017. I understood that you offer the policy for one year at a time and it is easily renewable. I also understood, that for example Atlas America offers plans that are refundable. Our family has five members, me (born 1977, J2 spouse), my husband (born 1966 J1 applicant), and three children (born 2004, 2007, 2015, J2 children). Any of us does not have permanent illnesses/medical problems. Is it possible to customize deductibles if we take a family plan? My husband for example is fully covered by an insurance taken from our home country (Finland), but the insurance company did not want to fill the compliance form. So he needs the insurance mainly because of the compliance form paperwork requirement. For him the deductible could be $500. Other family members would prefer lower deductible ($100). We would like to get an offer for the insurance for one year. We would like to pay it full (no monthly payments). If you need US credit score ratings, those are also available and are very good (I do not know if it lowers the payment). I will also attach the J1 Scholar Alternate Health Insurance Compliance form as an attachment. The University needs this paper filled by the insurance company. Would it be okay to get this filled if we select an insurance from you?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Atlas America plan meets all your school requirements. But that plan you can have max. for 364 days. You can repurchase the same plan after 364 days. If you want to renew the same plan without purchasing new policy. You can have Patriot Exchange plan. This plan you can renew as long as you are on J1 visa. Atlas America brochure, instant purchase link, /atlasamerica-insurance/ Patriot Exchange brochure, instant purchase link, /patriot-exchange-program-insurance/ If you want different deductible for your husband you need to do separate application. You can’t do one application with different deductible option. You can’t take more than $500 deductible in order to meet J1/J2 visa requirements. Once you purchase insurance you can send us compliance form with your information then only compliance dept. will sign. We can’t sign blank form. You can compare Patriot Exchange and Atlas America plan at, /j1-visa-health-insurance/ Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. You can get max. 364 days at one time. There is no difference in the premium. Whether you pay 364 days at one time or monthly. Only difference is that there will be $5 renewal fees whenever you renew the policy. We don’t need to check your credit history. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us.
