Q:My daughter and her husband are missionaries in Canada with permanent residency. They are both American citizens and file U.S. taxes. Can they purchase insurance through the marketplace in the States?

A:
In order to determine eligibility for Marketplace plans it is recommended that you contact them directly as we here at Insubuy do not have any affiliation with the federal marketplace.

Q:Hello! I'm currently in Costa Rica where I've been living/volunteering for a month and have purchased an international health insurance plan. I decided to extend this trip for another month, but I don't know what the process is to suspend my insurance back at home since I won't be there and have only been volunteering. I've been living in Colorado and have been purchasing a monthly health insurance plan there and it is quite expensive. Is there a way to suspend the CO health insurance while I'm volunteering in another country? Or will I get penalized?

A:
You would need to reach out to a tax professional or and accountant to see if there would be any penalties for not maintaining coverage in your resident state.

Q:I'm Shao-Wei Tsai. I will work in UIUC campus with a J1 VISA.I'd like to apply for the ExchangeGaurd Insurance plan for me and for my wife (with a J2 VISA).Currently, my wife is pregnant at approximately 14 weeks, so I'd like to ask is there any other suggested plan can cover her J2 VISA requirements and her pregnancy requirements. Thank you.

A:
The Exchange Guard plan does not provide any pregnancy benefits. Any of our J1/J2 plans that do provide some coverage, would have to be active before conception. Therefore, we would not have any plans that can cover your wife's pregnancy. If you have additional questions, please let us know.

Q:My dad had hernia surgey recently in India. He will be traveling to US for about a month. He is completely fit now and have rested enough as per doctors recommendations. While visiting US, if the stitches ruptures, or if he needs to do the hernia surgery again because of any unprecedented reason like an accident, will that be covered in acute onset of pre-existing conditions?

A:
An acute onset is an unexpected and sudden emergency. If the stitches were to rupture, that is something that could happen based on his current situation and would be something that could be expected to possibly happen. So it would depend on exactly what were to happen to determine coverage under acute onset at the time of an incident. Here is our FAQ on acute onset for you to review: /visitor-insurance-acute-onset-of-pre-existing-conditions/ We do have a plan that can provide some pre-existing condition coverage if fit to travel and not traveling to specifically obtain medical care. However, the plan would need to be purchased before departure from home country, it would include a separate benefit level for the pre-existing cnditions based on his age, and comes with an individual $1500 dedutible. It also has a 90 day minimum purchase so even if you enter in 30 days for example, it would still quote you for 90, and it is not extendable so you would need to purchase for the full duration of the stay. /visitors-protect-insurance/ If you have additional questions, please let us know.
