Q:I'm starting my graduate program in Queens College, Flushing this fall, 2017. I am 44 years old female and my 5 years old son is coming along with me during my duration of study (approximately two years). I am hoping to find an affordable health insurance for both of us. Upon that, I am currently under hyperthyroidism medication and the thyroid is so far under good control.

A:
Short term plans will not cover routine maintenance for the pre-existing conditions. So anything related to thyroid will be considered as pre-existing conditions. We provide insurance from many companies. But before we suggest any plan would like to know is there any specific insurance requirements from your school? If yes, please send us in pdf attachment. Meantime, please get quote online at: International Student Insurance Please enter appropriate criteria. You will find many plans and you can also compare them side by side. Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Q:I am a US citizen; however, I have permanent residency in Portugal (and am covered by their national health insurance). I would like to purchase temporary insurance for a short trip back to America (14 days), but am getting confused by some reference to "home country" which seems to say insurance doesn't cover in "home country" and has USA exclusions. It seems that Portugal is my home country and I can purchase insurance from your company. Can you confirm?? Any advice or suggestion is appreciated. I'm looking for high deductible plan for emergency purposes only. Am 57 female. Thanks.

A:
There is a plan called Diplomat America that would be available to you as a U.S. citizen traveling to the United States for a brief visit. The plans eligibility is based upon the insureds home country. So if Portugal is considered to be your home country then you would be eligible to purchase the Diplomat America plan. Please feel free to contact our office if you need any additional assistance.
