Q:We are looking at buying a holiday home in United States. What type of insurance do we need and what type of cost

A:
Visitor insurance plans are available as long as your primary residence country is outside the US. Keep in mind these plans are designed to cover the new injuries and illnesses that manifest in the body after the effective date. There is no plan on the market that will cover things such as pre-existing conditions, preventative or routine care. Should you have additional questions please let us know. Q:If you are on a trip and have a heart attack or stroke or something serious (lose a leg or whatever) does trip insurance cover any medical expenses? if so, how does that work? I have no medical issues but plan on a lot of travel....trying to weigh the pros and cons for buying insurance.

A:
A majority of trip insurance plans have medical coverage build in to them for new injuries and illnesses that manifest in the body after the effective date of the policy. Keep in mind that this will exclude coverage for pre-existing conditions, unless otherwise stated by and exclusion waiver. The plans will either have primary or secondary medical benefits and you can verify this by looking at the certificate wording or plan benefit sections on our website listed under each plan. If you have additional questions, please let us know. You may also call us at (866) 467-8289.

Q:My wife who resides in Dominican Republic age 26 will be coming to USA shortly within a few months on spouse visa, as far as I understand she will receive a conditional green card for two years because our marriage is new. She is not and will not be a USA citizens, but will hold gree card, can she use your plans (such as patriot plus)and can she use this up to two years.....

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. In her situation you may purchase the Patriot America Plus plan, but this application is available as long as the insured has a residence address outside of the U.S. Another option is the Safe Travels USA Comprehensive plan. This plan will cover the insured until their green card is approved. Once the greencard is approved you may purchase a short term health insurance plan such as the National General plan which will cover the insured until they are eligible for domestic insurance. If you have any additional questions, please contact our office.

Q:Question is for the allowed 'Duration' period based on State policy. If my state policy is 6 months, then what does it mean? Does it mean I will get initial insurance for 6 months and then I can extend upto 364 days at a time till maximum 5 years are reached? Or does it mean the "Bridge Insurance" can be bought for maximum of 6 months total, and no other extensions are allowed?

Q:If I do not have a claim and want to cancel the insurance before it has ended but after it started, can I get a pro rated refund?

A:
This is dependent on the plan. Most plans are refundable after the effective date as long as there are no claims on file. Typically there would be a pro-rated refund, less some cancellation fee. Because this is plans specific, we would recommend either calling our office about the specific plan you are referring to or viewing the refund rules listed below the plan. Our phone umber is (866) 467-8289.
