Q:My wife is currently on OPT status. She had insurance with United Healthcare till December 2018 from her University. About two years ago she was diagnosed for a cyst in right thyroid lobe which was suspicious in nature and she haven't received any treatment or medication for that. My question is- This condition be consider as Pre-existing condition? Which health policy can you suggest us to buy? We live in Nevada.

A:
The current issue your wife is dealing with, would be considered pre-existing. Short term plans do not cover pre-existing conditions. We do have one plan, the Exchange Guard Choice plan, that can offer a $500 benefit for pre-existing conditions after a 6 mo. waiting period and is available for someone on OPT. I have attached the quote link for the plan below. ExchangeGuard International Student Health Insurance Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Q: I am interested in purchasing the Exchange Guard Essential Insurance for myself and my family for the period of 30 June 2018 - 30 Sept 2018. I am an F-1 visa holder with Singapore citizenship, and my spouse (UK citizen) and one of my children (Singapore citizen) have F-2 visas. I have one more 5 year old child who is a dual Singapore and US citizen who I would also like to cover under the same insurance, but she does not require an F-2 visa because of her US citizenship. Her current residence is Singapore. Is it possible for her to also be covered by the insurance?

A:
The ExchangeGuard Essential plan is available only for Non US Citizens. So you can do ExchangeGuard plan for your whole family except your USC daughter. You can purchase Patriot America Plus plan for your daughter who is US Citizen as long as her country of Residence is outside US and she is not moving to US permanently. Please review the plan details and feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Q:My parents are visiting in June 2018 and will stay till Nov 2018. I am planning to buy the Patriot America Plus which has direct billing through First Health PPO Network. I am planning to get an annual physical done for them while they are here. Will that be covered in the insurance? If not, which plan will cover it?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. Insurance for an international visitor covers new sickness, injuries or accidents that occur after the insurance effective date of the policy. None of the insurance covers routine maintenance for pre-existing or preventive care. However, many plans provides coverage for an acute onset of pre-existing. Please find more information on acute onset of pre-ex here. Please read what is visitors insurance articles for further information. There is no short term plan which provides annual physical checkup because it's very expensive in this country. You have to pay from your pocket. Patriot America plus brochure, instant purchase link and information can be found here. Please feel free to contact us if you need any further clarification.
