Q:Again the question is if we need additional coverage in addition to our current health insurance which may not pay for out of network care. What is unclear is if our insurance will pay for any emergency care outside our network and whether it would be prudent to purchase shortterm insurance for the 3 months we will be traveling outside our service area much like insurance purchased for international travel.

A:
We cannot advise how your current primary plan would cover out of network. However, if you are a U.S. resident, we do have Trip Insurance plans that can cover someone traveling more than 100 miles from their home residence and the insurance would pay as primary. These plan do not have networks, so you can go to any provider. Here is a plan we could recommend for you to review: /travel-lx-insurance/
