Q:I am looking for trip insurance to cover reasons like: Illness or injury, death of the traveler or in the immediate family or similar catastrophic occurrences.

A:
The benefits will vary from plan to plan, however, most will cover trip cancellation due to an unexpected injury or illness of a traveler. The benefits are based on the travelers themselves. As far as a death of an immediate family member, if they have been sick and something happens, that would not be covered under any plan with the exception of a cancel for any reason benefit. Anything that is already a possibility of happening at the time of purchase would not be covered. If you are a U.S. resident, there are some plans that will offer a Cancel for Any Reason benefit, that can reimburse up to 75% of trip costs, as long as the trip insurance is purchased within depending on the plan 10, or 21 days of the initial trip deposit. That could be something to look into if you have not yet made an initial trip deposit. Once the trip has started the cancellation benefit option ends, and then the other travel benefits become valid. If you have additional questions about the plans benefits that you are viewing through the link provided, please let us know.
