Q:HI, My mother in law is visiting US and i am planning to take visitors insurance as she will be staying in US for 5 months. She has some pre existing medical problems like Blood Pressure, Thyroid and back pain. She will be carrying the required medication with her for her stay period in US as prescribed by her Doctor in her home country. She does not need any maintenance of her medical conditions as she has prescribed medications with her. All she need is that whether the insurance covers if any emergency occurs due to her pre existing medical condition. Where she can get into ER and get her medical issue stabilized temporarily, so that she can return back to her home country to continue her treatment. Please clarify. Thanks & Regards

There are plans like Atlas America or Patriot America Plus that offer the Acute onset of pre-existing conditions. This may be what you are looking in for coverage, but to learn more about the acute onset of pre-existing conditions please click the hyperlink to see the article. Visitors Protect is the only plan that offers coverage for pre-existing conditions, but it still cannot be known, expected, or routine treatment. It has a 90 day minimum purchase and $1500 deductible built into the plan for anything relating to a pre-existing condition. It must be purchased before the insured has left their home country, and the sub-limited maximum amount of coverage that is available for pre-existing conditions is $25,000 ($50k, $100k, or $250k policy max available for expenses related to new injuries or illnesses). You are welcome to run a quote in the Visitors to U.S.A. section of the website to see what plans are available. If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Q:travel medical insurance for my senior parents - what are the things covered and what are the best plans

A:
Visitors insurance will generally pay for any new injuries or illnesses that did not exist in the body before the effective date of the policy. No plans on the market are going to offer coverage for preventative care or routine maintenance of any kind, and they will not cover pre-existing conditions with the exception of the acute onset of a pre-existing condition coverage available on some plans, and a plan called Visitors Protect. Patriot America Plus and Safe Travels USA Comprehensive are two of our most popular plans. You are welcome to run a quote in the Visitors to the U.S.A. section of the website to see what plans are available to you. If you have any additional questions please let us know.
