Q:My father is about to travel from Australia to the USA. He suffers from AF ( atrial fibrillation) and high blood pressure. He is on medication for both of these conditions ( and is controlled ). If he was to suffer a heart related problem while overseas would he be covered ( insurance wise )

A:
Please keep in mind that visitors Insurance plans are primarily designed to cover new illnesses, injuries or accidents that either exist in the body or occur after the effective date of the policy. They are not designed to cover pre-existing conditions, routine doctors visits, or preventative treatments. Some plans include coverage for what is called the acute onset of pre-existing conditions. This coverage is there to help stabilize someone in the event there is an emergency situation that arises due to a pre-existing condition that needs immediate medical treatment. Another option you may consider is the Visitors Protect, this plan is the only visitors insurance plan that can include some coverage for pre-existing conditions. This plan must be purchased while the insured is still in their home country. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our office at +1 (866) INSUBUY 467-8289.

Q:I am a dual US and South Korean citizen planning to travel from South Korea US on a trip. I saw that travel insurance policies for US citizens are much more expensive than for foreigners. Can I purchase a travel insurance that is for non-citizens under my Korean passport even though I am a US citizen?

A:
No, you may not use a different country for your citizenship if you are a US citizen. Even if you are a duel citizen, in regards to the plans, you must always put you are a US citizen. There are a few plans available to US citizens temporarily visiting the US, but a recommended plan for this scenario is Patriot America Plus. If you have any additional questions please call our office at 1(866) 467-8289.

Q:What about the B1B2 visa, if the insured get fever or cough, is it covered in the insurance the insurance is Visitor Secure or Atlas America Thanks

A:
Plans are designed to cover any new illness or injuries that were to occur after the effective date of the policy. Yes, if the fever or cough was due to a new injury or illness that was not present in the body before the effective date, it can receive coverage. No plans on the market will cover preventative care, or routine maintenance. The two plans you mentioned will both cover for the described scenario, however Visitors Secure will payout in Sub-Limited Amounts and if anything were to happen the majority of the cost of services will always be the the insured responsibility. Please see The Risks of Purchasing Fixed Coverage Plans.
