Q:We are traveling to Lubumbashi, Dem. Rep. of Congo, for 7 weeks of university teaching on April 17 from Denver (via IAD & ADD), returning arriving Denver June 15 (via ADD & ORD). We have medical insurance coverage, including medical evacuation coverage. Our medical coverage includes $5,000 for flight interruption coverage. We are looking at trip insurance in terms of cancellation of trip or rescheduling the return due to potential flight bans, mandatory quarantines, etc. in the current covid-19 situation. (Congo just began mandatory 14-day quarantines for arriving passengers without symptoms from four European countries today.) Your Safe Travels 3-in1 covers trip cancellation in case we or immediate family members fall ill, but would cover cancellation due to onerous health regulations/mandatory quarantines or an major outbreak of covid-19 at destination?

A:
There is not a trip cancellation insurance plan that would cover the cost of trip cancellation for COVID-19. You would have to be eligible for CFAR in order to cancel for COVID-19.

Q:We are a travel booking company which offers customer itineraries for our client base. Because of the situation with the corona virus, they are all worried about booking trips for 2020. I am looking an insurance company that will offer full coverage insurance for them, so they can cancel the trip without having to provide any documents. I know this type of insurance is more expensive and often has an excess, but I think this is the only way people are going to book this year, because we still don't know what is going to happen. Please let me know if you offer cancel for any reason insurance If so, please send me rates, or let me know which information you need for each trip to send us a quote.

A:
We would be glad to advise. The plans we offer that include the Cancel for any reason benefit, which I believe you are referring to below, would only be available to U.S. residents. Therefore, we would not have any plans for the folks residing in Canada. The plans that do offer the benefit, have timeframes for purchasing the plan from the initial trip deposit date for that benefit to be included. Some plans state within 10 days of the initial trip deposit, others 20 days. All non-refundable trip costs must be included in the coverage. That is the only benefit that can cover cancellation due to Coronavirus and will reimburse up to 75% of the trip costs. The covered individuals would need to provide their receipts at the time of the claim. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:We are three Australians, aged 63, 65 and 69, travelling to USA and Canada from May 30 to June 27 this year. We have travel insurance however it does not cover COVID-19 and we have not been able to find insurance in Australia which will cover it. Do you sell insurance which will cover medical expenses associated with COVID-19? Thank you and best wishes, Graham Moss

A:
The Coronavirus exclusion is based on the destination (host) country and impacts members who travel to destinations (host countries) after travel warnings have been issued. This is a rapidly evolving situation. Make sure to confirm the most current information before making any decisions. Individuals traveling to the US or other countries where travel warnings have not been issued are not impacted by the exclusion. You can purchase Patriot America Plus or Safe Travels USA Comprehensive.
