Q:I am looking for a travel insurance policy that will cover the costs of my trip if I test positive for covid in Canada when I take the test 72 hrs before I board the plane - If I test positive, my trip is cancelled - is there a policy that would cover this? I would also like to know if there is coverage for additional expenses incurred (lodging etc) should I test positive before I return home and I have to quarantine or I need medical care in the USA.

A:
Trip cancellation insurance is available only to US Residents. Quarantine coverage also available if you need coverage outside US. You can purchase COVID 19 travel medical insurance and it provides coverage for COVID as any other sickness as long as you are infected after the effective date of the policy

Q:Hi- I'm looking at being in France for most of 2022. I was quoted for a policy with a January 1st, 2022 effective date and 365 day term. If my plans change prior to the effective date (ie postponed or canceled) can I cancel or change my policy? Thanks!

A:
It would depend on the policy you have purchased. Some plans will provide a full refund before the effective date of the policy, some will only provide a review period for a few days to cancel. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:Hi, I am a visiting scholar with a J1 visa from November 1, 2021 until August 31, 2023 (22 months). Is there any insurance covering the entire period? Because I have to send a confirmation of my health coverage for the entire period. Thank you!

A:
You can in some cases purchase 2 policies at the same time for different time periods. Also, some plans that are extendable beyond a year, will allow you to request to renew beyond the standard 1 year original purchase. You would need to check with your policy's customer service department to find out what options you would have based on your specific situation. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:Hi I am coming to the US to visit my family after nearly 2 years. I am covered in Spain with private insurance and they do cover for travel. However I would like to purchase additional insurance for the three weeks I will be there. I am also vaccinated against COVID. Would this insurance work for me?

A:
If you are a United States citizen returning to the US for a visit, you may purchase insurance from the Visitors to the USA section of our website. You will enter the appropriate information into the quote screen of the website and view the applicable plans. One recommended plan if your primary residence remains Spain would be the Patriot America Plus plan. You can read over the certificate wording and if you have additional questions regarding the coverage available you may call our office at +1 (866) 467-8289.
