Q:Medical Insurance whilst not in Us My friend is working in UK at present . She is not pregnant They are planning to have a baby now. But she would be travelling to US in the near future because she has a valid visa to work in US. Is there any insurance which she can pay while in UK itself so that it would cover her maternity expenses in the future Thank you very much Devi

A:
Look at the plans at /expatriate-health-insurance/ There is at least 1 year waiting period for maternity expenses. Go through the plans and maternity coverage for each of them. If you have any further questions, post them here or call us.

Q:how much coverage to buy Hello! My In-laws (Ages 72 and 65) are visiting from India for 6 months (Aug 08- Jan 09). They are in good health with no preexisting conditions. How much Coverage (25K, 50K etc) is reasonable.

A:
25k is too little. You need to buy at least 50k, and preferably 100k. Whether they are healthy or not, have pre-existing conditions or not, it does not matter. Because insurance only pays for any new medical conditions occuring after the effective date of the insurance. And the probability of some getting into new medical conditions is the same for everyone at a given age. Thanks for the prompt respone. Additionally - which Insurance company/plan would you recommend. How much policy maximum would you like to consider? Also, there are two types of insurance plans: fixed, comprehensive. /visitors-insurance/ Would you like to consider fixed or comprehensive?

Q:Insurance Renewal and changing plan details Hello, I'm planning on buying one of Patriot America/Protection America for my parents. I have a question on insurance renewal. Lets say I buy an insurance plan for a max coverage of 50K and a deductible of 250 for 3 months. At the end of 3 months when it is time to renew my insurance can I change the max coverage to 100K and deductible to say 1000 or something. Thanks

A:
When you renew the insurance, you can't make any material changes in the policy. Only things you are change is your contact details like address, phone numbers etc. In order to change the policy maximum or deductible, you will have to purchase a completely new policy. All the terms and conditions will start all over again. And if person used the insurance in a previous duration, those conditions may be considered pre-existing conditions in the new duration.

Q:Which Insurance to buy I need your expert opinion while purchasing medical Insurance for my Mom and Dad. The details are summarized below Dad DOB24 April 1938 (exact 70 Yrs) Health Condition 1. Suffering from Cervical Spondylolysis. Current State stable 2 years, with medication. 2. Known case of Hyper tension. Current State Totally under control with medication no fluctuations since last 3 years. 3. Enlarged heart chamber (LVH). Current State Totally under control with medication, No attack ever. Mom DOB11 Aug 1946 (62 Yrs) Health Condition 1. Suffering from Diabetes. Current State Absolutely under control with medication. Given that I am not sure whether 1. Heart is a precondition for my dad since no attack or any thing. 2. Hyper Tension will be considered as preexisting condition Presumably because one of your FAQ says that if medicines and its dosage it unchanged since long time then it wont be considered as preexisting. In both the cases above the medicines are not being changed for 2 years (ever since when they first started) The most important part is In case of all of the above is preexisting, then is there a need to buy a high premium Insurance because most of the things (especially for Dad) won't be covered as other expenses will be a less expensive and hence fixed cost Insurance might be good enough. More over my wife is a Doctor (Not practicing in US) who can take care in usual illness and practically speaking even if I have to take them to hospital in extreme case (nonpreexisting condition) the cost wont be more that 50,000 $ What do you think I know nothing is certain in this world but I am just looking at the probability and hence wanted to make a good choice and hence need your opinion. Can you suggest the best thing for me... Best Regards SG

A:
All the medical conditions you have described will be considered as pre-existing conditions and not covered. Even if the person didn't have a heart attack, the person has an ongoing heart disease. And that is pre-existing. The reasoning around medicine dose not changed for a long time applies only to the trip cancellation insurance (primarily meant for US residents going abroad) and not to the visitors insurance. Still, in any case, I would recommend you to purchase comprehensive coverage plans. Fixed coverage plans are never enough. Probability of someone getting into completely new medical conditions is the same for anyone for a given age. And when such new medical condition arise, how much you will get covered is that what is the difference between fixed coverage plans and comprehensive coverage plans. Even though both fixed and comprehensive coverage plans may have $50,000 policy max, fixed coverage will only pay $55/dr visit, $330/er visit, $3,300/surgery, $1,400/day/hospital room & board and so on. And those limits are well below the actual expenses. I hope that answers all your questions. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them here or call us at any time.
