Q:Hello. I am purchasing travel and travel medical insurance for a trip out of the US. I was forced to cancel a previous trip due to covid19 and I received an airline credit at that time. I used the airline credit to pay for a portion of my upcoming trip tickets. Although paid for with a credit, this flight is nonrefundable and I will still be out that monetary value if something were to affect the trip this time. Am I able to include the full value of the airline tickets in the trip cost, or only the portion that I paid cash for this time?

A:
Customers can insure a voucher they received from a previously booked trip. They can insure the pre-paid non-refundable amount. If they end up receiving a higher credit in their voucher (for example, we have some customers who received an additional 25% as an incentive to rebook), they can only insure the actual cash they paid, not the value of the voucher. At the time of a claim we would ask the traveler to provide proof of how much they are out of pocket - how much they originally paid. We use the date the arrangements are made using the voucher as the initial trip deposit date, which allows customers to be eligible for time sensitive benefits.
