Q:I had a condition called rheumatoid arthritis, however this was cured last year. Now that I'm coming to the US to study under a F1 visa, I would like to get insurance in the unlikely case that the condition might return. Do you have any plan that would cover the expenses if my condition recurs? The medicine required for my condition is Humira Adalimumab (prescription medicine).

A:
With the ExchangeGuard plans, after the 6 months (with Choice) or the 12 months (with Essential) waiting period, there is a $500.00 benefit for pre-existing conditions. Anything you currently have or take medication for would be considered a pre-existing condition. Please let us know if you have additional questions.

Q:I'm looking to buy medical insurance for my 58yr old mother, who is visiting California for 2 months. She has mild hypertension and takes statins so I'd like to get pre-existing condition coverage for her. Could you email me some options?

A:
There is no plan on the market for visitors that will cover pre-existing conditions. Instead, you would want to purchase a plan that includes the Acute Onset benefit in case of a sudden and unexpected occurrence. Please see the links below for the recommended plan and more information on the Acute Onset: Atlas America Patriot America Plus Acute Onset FAQ

Q:Can I purchase only when they need the insurance?

A:
If something happens and then you purchase, the plan will not cover it. Plans will cover any new illness or injury that occur after the effective date. There is no plan out there that will cover pre-existing conditions, preventative care, or routine maintenance. So if someone gets sick or injured and then you purchase a plan you will have to pay out of pocket for the current condition. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our office.

Q:I am planning to bring my wife to the US for 97 days. She is pregnant now. But, she will be going back before her due date which is in February. Will the expenses for her ultrasound and usual checkups covered in the short term policy if I take one?

A:
No, there is no short term plan that you can purchase that will cover the regular visits for a pregnancy. Those charges would be paid for out of pocket.

Q: Do I have to purchase this insurance before visitors arrive to the USA?

A:
We recommend you purchase before they arrive so they can be covered during travel. However, it is possible to purchase after traveling to the US as well.
