Q:L1/L2 visa insurance questions I am leaving London to work in Houston Texas next month and planning to visit New York or Los Angeles before I start work. My UK travel insurance will be void if I remain in the USA (which I will for three years) so is there a temporary health insurance that you have for my situation??

A:
Thank you for contacting Insubuy for your insurance needs. Please advised as to what type of visa you will be in the United States on as well as your age so that a proper plan recommendation can be made. I will be on a L-1 visa and my family (wife & son) will be on L-2 visas. In order to be compliant with the Affordable Care Act you and your family would be required to purchase a domestic insurance plan that meets the 10 essential health benefits in order to avoid tax penalties assessed by the U.S. government. Any U.S. citizen or resident is required to have a compliant plan. These will be available to you for review upon your arrival into the United States and cannot be purchased before your arrive. Often these are offered by U.S employers, it is recommended that you see if you would be offered employer insurance upon your arrival. The plans on the Insubuy website are temporary solution for the interim period you are without coverage. The available plan will cover any new accidents or illness that occurs after the effective date of the policy unrelated to the pre-existing conditions. You can review the Patriot America Plan for coverage until you are eligible to enroll into a domestic insurance . If you have any questions about this plan please feel free to contact our office for assistance. Patriot America Plus brochure & instant purchase link: /patriot-america-plus-insurance/

There are no requirement. I need coverage for only myself, J2, not the student on J1. He has coverage through the school.

Most plans are offered for the J1 and J2 and not just a J2 so for one plan that is what is asked for eligibility purpose. So, if your spouse has insurance through the school then you can purchase the Patriot Exchange Program found here by clicking the Quotes & Purchase button. Q:US citizen moving back to USA Hi, I am a US citizen currently living in Australia. My son is also a US citizen, and my husband is not, but has just been awarded a green card. We are returning to live in the US in June, but we are unsure of length of stay. Possibly 2-3 years. We will have travel insurance from an Australian company for the first year. Would we be eligible to buy visitors insurance from you after we have already been in the states for a year?

A:
Thank you for your interest in purchasing insurance through us. If you are planning to stay in USA for 2-3yrs, you can purchase short-term insurance until you are eligible for ACA-compliant insurance, or domestic insurance through an employer. As you know it is mandatory to have Obama Compliant plan for USC who lives in USA, otherwise you have to pay penalty.
