Q:Help needed on Visitor's comprehensive insurance My Dad and Mom are traveling to US in the month of June and would be staying with us for 3 months and 6 months respectively. I have the following questions in regards to that: 1. Can you please suggest me one good comprehensive medical insurance that I can use for doctor's visit in case they get sick? 2. Can I take them to my regular PCP with the suggested insurance in the event they get sick? How do I know if they will accept the insurance that I buy from here? 3. Can I take them to Emergency care with the suggested insurance if required? 4. In the event they have to leave early, would there be a refund of the premium for the unused days? Thanks for your help.

A:
1. Look at Patriot America, available at /patriot-america-lite-insurance/ Yes, you can take them to Dr. if they get into any new sickness after the effective date of the policy. 2. Yes. Read /international-medical-ppo-network/ 3. Yes. 4. After the effective date, as long as no claims have been submitted since the effective date, you will get the pro-rated refund minus $50 cancellation fee. Mom has type 2 diabetes an is currently on insulin. If any complications arise directly or indirectly associated to the ailment, would that be covered by Patriot America or is there any other plans that would partially/fully cover. I was reading about Atlas also. Which is a better plan? Patriot America or Atlas. Thanks Diabetes is definitely considered as pre-existing and any expenses not covered. Both Patriot and Atlas are excellent plans. However, as they are from two different companies, there are few differences. You can visit https://www.insubuy.com and compare them side by side to see which feature difference is more important than others. i am looking for visitor insurance for my in-laws who are arriving tomorrow. I have looked all the plans and found patriot America as the best as it gives 90/10 and various deductible options. My in-laws will stay for 4 months here and in case if they stay longer for 2 more months, can I extend the plan without having any effect on my deductibles? and for example, if something happens during the first 4 months, will this be considered as a pre condition in the extended period? TIA Yes, you can extend it for next 2 months. Deductible is still annual. If something was covered in first 4 months, it would be covered in 5th and 6th month also. thanks for the quick response. I have a question, is there any difference between insuring jointly and doing it separately. if I have to do for my in-laws, can i add my Mother-in-law to father-in-law as spouse coz, when i do it jointly it says primary insured and spouse. Is there any difference as far the coverage is concerned? TIA You should buy them separately. Please look at the specific FAQ addressing this exact question at /visitors-medical-insurance/ thanks, that helps and i have gone through all the faqs. I will do it separately . Cheers

Q:J2 insurance for my wife Dear sir or madam I am writing to ask for issues concerning J-2 visa insurance. I came to the US this February as a visiting scholar. The exchange program lasts for 3 months and ends by May 16th. As soon as I arrived, I have purchased all the insurance for 6 months as required for a J1 visa holder. I am now inviting my wife to the US. She is applying for a J2 visa holder. She is scheduled to arrive on May 4th and she would leave the US, together with me, on May 22nd. Could you tell me how many month's insurance should I buy for my wife since she would stay in the US for only a month (18 days altogether). I was told that she is obliged to buy insurance for 6 months, which seems very unreasonable and unacceptable. I look forward to your reply asap. Thank you

A:
You don't have to buy for 6 months. You can buy just for 1 month. Thank you very much! Can you tell me the reason that I buy only ONE month's insurance for my wife since I could reply to my hosting university. Thank you That is because there is no requirement that you must buy 6 months insurance. I've got it. Thank you! You don't have to buy for 6 months. You can buy just for 1 month. Hi, Nerendra I have informed the university that my wife is going to stay with me in the US for about 10 days. But the university insists that she should buy 6-months' insurance since "regulations require J1 scholars to purchase health insurance for each dependant for the entire duration of their program." What regulations are they? I cann't see any reason why a person should buy 6 months' insurance for a 10-days' trip! Can you help me explain it? Thank you! I am not sure what regulations they are talking about. From our perspective, you can buy for howerver long you want it. Hi, here is the quoted reply: ... Federal regulations state that all exchange visitors (both J1 and J2 dependents) are required to have sickness insurance in effect for the duration of their exchange visitor status. I have included the federal regulations below. Federal Regulations: 22 C.F.R. § 62.14 (a) Sponsors shall require each exchange visitor to have insurance in effect which covers the exchange visitor for sickness or accident during the period of time that an exchange visitor participates in the sponsor's exchange visitor program. ... Is it the only solution? No alternatives? Unfortunately, you will have to go with whatever your organization is asking you to do.

Q:Parent with green card Hi, I am posting this query on behalf of my friend, he processed/sponsored green card for his father. My friend is planning to take insurance for his father (age 66) who will visit US in 3 weeks time. He has sugar and BP. During the stay in US if the father has to be hospitalized due to sugar or BP, will the hospitalization expenses be covered by insurance plan? Please direct us to an insurance company which provides above mentioned coverage. Thanks, -AK.

A:
Unfortunately, that would be considered as pre-existing conditions and not covered under any insurance plan from any company.

Q:Insurance for my mother Hi, I am planning to take insurance for my mother (age 65) who will be visiting me in 2 weeks time. She has diabetes and BP. She will stay with me for about 6 months. We will buy medicines outside, which she has to take daily for sugar and BP. During the stay in US if she has to be hospitalized due to high sugar or high BP, will it be covered in insurance plan? if yes which insurance product/instrument has this coverage? Thanks in advance. -AK.

A:
Unfortunately, that would be considered as pre-existing condition and not covered under any insurance plan from any company. I am surprised, you have made two posts. And the contents of both the posts are almost identical. And you are describing the same medical conditions of two entirelly different people. What exactly is going on? Thanks for the apt/swift response. Yes, I posed two similar queries. Iin my case my mother is coming to US on visitor visa, whereas in my friends case his father is coming to US on green card. From the replies I understand that there is no difference between a person who is on visitor visa or green card as far as insurance is concerned, please correct if my understanding is correct. Thanks, -AK. In your mother's case and and your friend's father's case, there is no difference.

Q:Eligibility question I am a Non-US permanent resident living in New Jersey for almost 7 years now. My employer provide a group health plan, but only covers 10% of premium, so for me it is very expensive. Can I opt-out from the group plan and apply for an immigrant health insurance? Am I eligible for Patriot o CitizenSecure plans? Thanks.

A:
No, you can't buy any of those. What are my options? What should I do? Continue with employer insurance.
