Q:K1 visa insurance - policy requires me to put date of return to home country, but obviously as a K1 visa holder I am intending on remaining in the US until I am granted a Green Card. I plan on transferring to my fiance's insurance after we are married. What should I put as the date of end of trip?

A:
Where it asks for your return date to home country, you are just going to enter the last date you need coverage. So for example if you think you need the insurance until 9/1/20 when maybe you are eligilbe for coverage through a spouses employer at that time you would just enter 9/1/20. If you choose a date and end up needing to use the insurance longer, as long as the policy is extendable, you would just go in and extend it for a longer time period. It is really asking how long will you need the coverage. Based on your situation, you may not be returning to home country at all. If you have additional questions, please let us know.

Q:Booked 4 weeks in Hawaii and bought insurance on January 17, 2020. When I talked with the travel insurance company to get info, in case we have to cancel, if Hawaii enforces additional restrictions, I was told they would not pay because of Covid. The policy I bought did not have the Covid exclusion in it. The company agrees that I bought the policy before they changed the coverage. They even told me that Covid wasn't considered a world event until Feb. 3, 2020. Bottom line, I was told that they changed my coverage to the current policy, so the trip would not be covered. I feel we should be "grandfathered" in. I did not pay for the policy they changes me to. We paid a total of $803.70 for the various policy's to cover the different facets of our trip, all with the same company. We have invested between $13,000-$14,000 for our entire family to go. We were covered then THEY changed my policy. Seems so very wrong at many levels. Do I have any recourse?

Q:I have bought travel medical insurance for my parents on March 18th, can it be upgraded to cover covid(like testing and emergency if needed)

A:
The plan you purchased does not provide benefits for Covid-19, because it was purchased before 7/15/2020. New purchases beginning as of 7/15/2020 of the same plan, now include Covid-19 benefits. Therefore, anyone who purchases a new plan now will have that coverage. If you would like to cancel your current plan and repurchase a new policy, as benefits cannot be added to an existing plan, you can do so by logging into My Account on the Insubuy website with your current policy number and date of birth. /myaccount/ However, be advised that if any claims have been filed since the beginning of your current policy, we would advise you to contact our office directly at 1-866-INSUBUY to discuss how that would impact cancellation, claims and repurchasing a new plan. You can find other plans that include Covid-19 benefits including comprehensive plans through this link: /covid19-travel-medical-insurance/ The plans that offer benefits for Covid-19, will cover it as any other new illness as long as it is contracted after the effective date. If it were contracted before the effective date, it would be deemed pre-existing and not covered. The plans will not cover elective testing for Covid-19. If you have additional questions, please let us know.

Q:I an from India. I am holding IR 5 (Parent of US citizen) immigrant visa. With this visa status I plan to enter US (California) before August 15, 2020. I want comprehensive insurance covering COVID 19. Please tell me the best suitable insurance plan.

A:
Based on your current situation, we do have new immigrant plans that can cover you in the U.S. until your domestic insurance starts. Once you arrive in the U.S., you must apply for the domestic insurance, however, because those plans can take up to 15 to about 30 days to begin, in the meantime, the new immigrant plans can provide the temporary coverage. The plans we have available to new immigrants in the state of California can be found through the link below, however, none of the plans you would be eligible for provide benefits for Covid-19. /new-immigrant-insurance/ If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
