Q:I am 74 years and my wife 73 years old, have come to USA on green card in Dec 2018. We plan to stay here for 6 months. We need short term health insurance plan, which should cover our pre existing conditions. Please suggest us plans suitable for us

A:
Short term plans are NOT meant to cover pre-existing conditions. They would cover any new medical conditions, injuries or accidents that occur after the effective date of the policy. We have 2 sections that provide coverage to green card holders. The one provided below, The New Immigrant plans link, is for green card holders who will be staying in the U.S. for more than 6 months, residing here permanently . They are only available If the green card holder is not eligible for Medicare, or any domestic insurance plan offered in the state in which they will be residing. If they are eligible for either of those insurances, they would have to enroll into them, and they would not be eligible for any of these plans. You would have to run these quotes yourself, as they will have you choose different options including deductible to determine cost. /new-immigrant-insurance/ If a green card holder is coming to stay in the U.S., but for 6 months or less, we have plans for Visiting with green card, and have listed that link below. There is one plan under this section that does have acute onset benefits, but it is a benefit only offered to people 69 years of age or younger. Therefore, there are no plans available to you, that will cover pre-existing conditions, or the acute onset of pre-existing conditions. /green-card-holders-visiting-usa-insurance/ If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Q:My daughter who is 100 percent disabled with complex medical condition and I are taking a cruise in May 2020. She is in perfect health right now when I booked it and remains. I just booked the cruise and put a deposit on the cruise last week. The other two cruises we have booked we did it within a year of travel dates so I was able to figure out entire trip cost at that time and book travel insurance with pre existing and waiver within 30 days of paying the deposit. I am not sure how much the total cost is for the cruise in 2020 so I was wondering how much time do I have to purchase travel insurance with pre existing condition, waiver, cancel for any reason coverage? I am still trying to understand this and how it works.

A:
Plans that offer pre-existing coverage generally require that you purchase within 20 days of the date your initial trip deposit is received. Must insure 100% of trip costs. If you don't know how much the final cost will be then you would put the amount to date and then make sure you adjust the amount as it is paid. The cancel for any reason, if available, generally has the same conditions.

Q:I am looking for medical insurance for my wife. She is a Brazilian citizen living in Connecticut with a J-2 visa. I am a J-1 student with health insurance provided by my sponsoring university. A requirement for her visa is to have medical insurance with the following minimum coverage: 1. $100,000 per accident or illness 2. A deductible of no more than $500 per illness and a co-pay not to exceed 25% 3. Medical evacuation in the amount of $50,000. Evacuation refers to transporting an injured person for medical treatment. 4. Repatriation coverage for up to $25,000. Repatriation refers to transporting a body to the country of citizenship after death. I would like to know if she could buy insurance from InsuBuy as a Brazilian Citizen who spends about 10 months per year in the US with a J-2 visa. Ideally, we would like to renew the insurance for the next 5 years. Do you recommend any particular plan for our needs? Lastly, part of the legal requirement for the corporation underwriting is to have the minimum rating requirement: "A.M. Best rating of "A" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-i" or above, a Standard and Poor's Claims-paying Ability rating of "A" or above, a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of "B+" or above". Can you confirm that the corporation which underwrites the insurance fulfills such requirements or point to a source where I could check this information?
